LEAF ZONE question

I have a 55 gallon tank, with different types of anubias, a java fern and crypts...I have apI root tabs and I dose apI leaf zone once per week and apI liquid co2 every day. I still see some yellowing in some of the tips of leaves of some of my plants.....I was wondering if I should up the dose of the leaf zone...maybe they need more nutrients?

I have a 0.5w led light over my tank.

I think you might actually be adding too much nutrients. I could be wrong but I think both co2 and fertilizer is a bit much. I'm also guessing you have fish in the tank as well?

Adding CO2 and ferts shouldn't be too much - it's a normal dosing routine.

What kind of LED do you have? How many of the 0.5 watt bulbs does it have? Could be a lighting issue.

its this light:

thanks for your link...

It looks like a potassium deficiency.

I use Leaf Zone also and follow that up with Iron twice a week. Texas Domer knows her lights but it also can be the Crypts need additional iron. I'm also surprised that your crypts are taking liquid C02 without a problem.

I don't supplement extra iron and my crypts are growing without any issues (even red C. wendtii). I didn't know crypts needed additional iron.

so what do you think, should I add some other supplement or more leaf zone?

Which plants are yellowing?

You could try it? When was the last time you added root tabs?

You want to keep a even amount of nutrients and light and Co2. If lets say Co2 is higher than there extra Co2 that the plants won't use because there isn't enough light to photosynthesis and use the Co2 fast enough etc. Its the same to nutrients and light. If light is low and nutrients are high then there are extra nutrients and Co2 for algae to grow and other bad things to happen. Its a cycle

I added root tabs a few days ago and its the anubias that are showing this problem.

When did you get the anubias?

Maybe try dosing twice a week and see if that helps.

Knowing you with plants your lighting and substrate are most likely ideal. But yes your right that crypts are root feeders and possibly don't need any liquid ferts at all. But I have them in partial sand and gravel and I use tabs, leaf zone and dose some iron and they're taking off and it's possible it's just the tabs but yellow leaves can be due to a iron deficiency. I could be wrong.

Potassium deficiencies can cause yellow leaves too, I think.

Maybe the root tabs I use have enough iron that it's not an issue? I use Osmocote Plus, which provides both macro and micros.

I believe your right about Potass causing yellowing of the leaves and also small holes is usually a sign of Potass deficiency. I just received a package of 100 Osmocote plus that you advised someone on another thread. What I don't understand from the OP is yellowing leaves on an anubias and Java fern I don't think I've ever seen that in my short time back into fishkeeping. I don't like Java Fern because it seems I always get that black hair and it drives me crazy. But after thinking about what you said the crypts mostly likely just need added root tabs and I like the idea of a root tab right next to the root itself. Always nice hearing from you.

Happy to help, any time

I haven't had experience with Java ferns or Anubias yellowing either. Those are hard to kill as long as you have fish and light! I had to look up possible issues for those.
Raptorsvt29 - let us know if dosing twice a week doesn't help!

I'm sorry two more questions....the leaves that have a little yellowing on them or have a pin hole in them...should I remove them completely, including the stem?

And is there anything better than leaf zone that I can use as a fertilizer that has more nutrients, that the ones found in leaf zone?

thanks
