Lava Rock In Rcs Tank?

I live about three miles away from a volcano and was wondering if I could put lava rocks in my rcs tank, is it good? Is it bad? How much should I put in?

 

You can use lava rock, many keepers including myself use it.

Nope, it shouldn't.

 

Wash it well, and you should be good to go, as they often have a lot of clays/dirt which can cloud the water and introduce an overload of nutrients.

 

Definitely wash well. I had some lava rock from Petco and some from Home Depot (Mr Barbecue brand had some decent size pieces), and with both, if you set it down and pick it up - dust. Wash until the water runs clear and then at least one more time.
