Lava Rock For Fireplaces As Decoration In A Planted Tank?

Hey guys, didnt know where to post this because there was no section that seemed fit, but driftwood seemed like maybe a good place to ask. Is it safe to use this type of lava rock in my tank? I am soaking it in distilled water, and I am going to add it to the tank in a couple days before adding plants. Id like my dwarf baby tears to grow on them. I heard it can cause pH issues, any input would be helpful. Thanks

Lots of people use Lava Rocks for decorations as well as bio media due to it's porous nature.

Lava rock varies in composition depending on which specific volcano and geological region it comes from.
Getting some intended for fireplaces doesn't make it unsafe, but it does mean it is not really tested. It may have components that raise the pH, so just check the pH of the water you sit it in over a couple of days and you'll know if it messes with it.
