Large Tank Cleaning System

Hey guys, I'm going to be upgrading to a 175g as I just rescued fish that will be getting large. Definitely fish that produce a lot of waste. As one is a male sailfin pleco I measured at least 10".

I've seen tank builds where there was some **** type thing underneath. Can anyone fill me in on what that's for and stuff?

As to how to be able to clean large tanks easier. After they grow bigger in that 175 I'm jumping to a 300g but probably definitely a lot larger. Since the one (yes I did a lot of thorough research on the fish but is still small enough to swim with room in my 55g) will need a tank larger than 300g.

The 55g is the only biggest tank I've ever had and had been able to do my normal water changes with ease with a gravel vac and bucket. I feel like the 175g and 300+ will be a lil difficult to maintain with a bucket and gravel vac. So any help is appreciated on how to clean larger tanks a lot easier ty

You could look into sumps. They are basically another tank under the tank for bacteria to build and to act as another filter. Canister filters become better and better options the larger tank you get. You could also look into the python water change system and aqueon offers something similar but it is more expensive I think.

I definitely think the sump was what I was seeing months ago. Thank you so much! I've only looked into cannisters a little. I have 2 big hobs on my 55g. But I'm worried with the two I rescued they might produce a lot of waste. As I have them with my baby oranda who is too big for the baby I rescued. Yes qt'd. I noticed the poor sailfin has a fun that's a lil beat up but has nothing disease wise wrong with it. He swims with Grace and seems to love the space I can offer.

I'm now wondering if a cannister too , or another hob will be the appropriate way to go until the 175g comes in and gets cycled

Don't forget about the water change systems. They can hook right up to your sink and create a suction that will pull water from your tank and fill it directly without having to lug 5-gallon buckets of water all over the house.

I need to replace my whole sink for that as my bathroom is across the fish tank area. It's old and needs replaced anyways. So I guess I could figure out a sink that could allow hook ups my baby is one who is EASILY frightened by nature. Can I control the flow from a sink hook up?

That video shows how to use it. I would think you could adjust the sink’s original flow rate before it gets turned off. You could also just put a filter over the end or cover part of it if that doesn’t work. I’m sure you could find many diy methods. I don’t think it would be any louder than turning the sink on a higher setting. Pouring buckets of water would be louder.
