Large Bump On Bettas Side

Hi, my betta who's name is Buddy has a huge thing on his side. It keeps getting bigger and now is showing on his other side. I know it isn't constipation because he's still eating normally. He's not flaring at me anymore and just lays down a lot. He's alone in a 5.5 gal tank, I don't know the water parameters but he has a filter and heater. He's had it since March or April. I've had him since January and I don't know what to do. He's my baby and I need help. I've attached some pics

Can't really see much from the s.

Sounds like Buddy has a tumour

So what should I do? Just leave it alone?

Yeah, that doesn't look too good, but I don't know what you could do about it...sorry.

I know there's nothing I can do about it but should I put him in a smaller/shorter tank so he can reach the surface easier? As much I hate thinking about this, would it be in his best interest if I put him to sleep? I don't want him to be in pain or for him to bump it on something and have it burst. I also don't want to do it before I have to. I love him so much

If it were me, I would just keep him in his tank. If you don't have any thing tall in the tank, like a tall plant or orniment or even a betta hammock in the tank that he can lay on, you may want to get one.
