Lady Betta Lip Bump

To give a little background, I have a 10-gallon aquarium that currently has three female bettas. The sorority isn't going as smoothly as the first time around. One was being bitten up so badly I removed her and put her in her own 5.5 gal tank. The remaining three are all pretty aggressive and some sort of calm seems to be developing this past week(I know the minimum recommendation is 5, one died just this past week possible from a parasite. (I know many say at least 30 gallons is required but I didn't know this back in the spring when I started.))

My reason for posting is the galaxy koi girl I got from Coast Gem about two weeks ago. I noticed a red/reddish-brown spot on/below her lower lip as soon as I unboxed her but thought it was just a natural part of her coloration. I realize now that it's not just a spot but also swollen. Her behavior and temperament don't seem to have changed in any noticeable way. Her appetite is normal.

I was planing to purchase to more girls from Coast Gem then I noticed her lip. I want to have a more balanced/sorority-friendly number but I figured I should try to address this problem before adding more fish.

Earlier, I did some brief research on bumps, tumors, pustules, etc. but I can't confidently say I can identify what it may be. Any ideas? Your advice will be greatly appreciated!

My tank's pH was 7.6 Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 0

I am sorry to hear about your fish. does your fish have any other symptoms? I really think it's just 'birthmark' so to speak; since the seller shipped the fish and it has always been there.

Also, I know this isn't the reason you made this post, but having zero nitrates is borderline impossible and very very rare. If you are using test strips, keep them as a backup. If using the test kits, I suggest shaking the #2 bottle more vigorously and trying again. If nothing, buy a new test kit. If again nothing, I aI'm to one day follow your path in having perfect parameters.

I use the API test kit. It definitely looked like a light blue with no hints of red/purple so, I read that as 0ppm. But 'll give that a try next time thanks.
She doesn't appear to have any other symptoms. I hope you're right Mathew but the spot seems to be more swollen/bulbous than I recall when I first got her.

That's good that test tube was light blue that should be your Nitrite readings. The NitrAtes will be a bit of a brown color when tested. Not a disease or illness pro so I can't comment on the betta sorry, Other than a sorority is very hard to keep from what ive researched. I don't think i'de do one myself

Oh, my bad. My nitrAtes tube appears yellow without a hint of orange/red...

The spot looks like it may be a little more swollen. And she now has a loose little flap of skin on her upper lip/above her upper lip in the nasal area.

They've definitely calmed down in terms of their aggression, so that seems promising. But, I'm hoping I can figure out what's going on with her face so I can treat her if necessary...

I am currently running through a giant betta-tastrophe due to some sort of contagious parasite or bacterial infection getting into my sorority.....

Treat the whole sorority - even if that means doing double treatments (main tank + quarantine tank)

With a sorority - there is always a chance that somebody doesn't work out with the rest. It happens. Make sure you have some provision for what to do with the one who doesn't get along.... Either return her or move her into her own tank.
