Kuhli Loach And Filter

hello, i'm considering getting kuhlI loaches for my new tank (currently cycling) and I realised that i'd have to somehow cover my canister filter outlet and inlet to prevent them from getting into it! How would I do this? Would sponge work...? thanks

I use 350 GPH and up HOB and canister filters and never had an issue with the kuhli's

 

I got 2 stuck in my over-hanging filter. They passed thru it fine, but were living in the bottom. Theyre back in the tank with a canister filter now.

 

Use a prefilter over the intake.
You can buy them or make one from a sponge filter insert.

If you want I can post a pic of the one in my tank.
