Kribs bred!! (Updated)

Finally they laid eggs...I was putting them in a tank of their own but they bred before I had the chance. I know that the first time a pair of kribs breed the eggs/fry may not make it. BUT At least they are a pair for sure now.

 

Congrats, are they the bubble like things inside of the pot?

Yup..there has to be about 100 eggs all over that side of the pot.

Thanks...I'm turning th 50 gallon into a kribensis colony in a bit. So this is promising.

 

Oh, it's so nice to watch kribs care for their fry, especially when they parade them around the tank for their little outings.

 

Soon Allie, you'll soon have a 50 gallon krib colony. Pretty soon.

I have all the angels & tetra separated in other tanks today...so the kribs have the tank to themselves. The eggs still look good today. Mom is protecting them so well...I can not get pix without her going in front of the opening. All I see is a krib Mom . Dad is in the log we have in their tank. So hopefully in a week or so I'll be able to get pix of Mom parading around with her kids.

I've personally found that presence of target fish (tetras) with spawning and parental cichlids to be beneficial. Repulsing the "enemy" seems to form a tighter bond with the breeding pair, plus it keeps them from turning any possible protective aggression on each other.

So you think if I left say the diamond tetra in the tank, that would be ok? I wanted to leave the 5 diamonds in there b/c they look really cool in the tank. This I will try...I was afraid of the aggression part. I heard that Moms sometimes will kill the Dad to protect their babies. Dither fish...is needed. Thanks. "Target fish" are specifically used to draw aggression away from breeding partners.

My target fish were fast and fairly large. They kept my breeding angels busy, but were too fast to get hurt by them!

It's a 50 gallon that the kribs are in.
The diamonds are larger tetra & very fast...I've been watching the kribs chase them...but they never get them. Now my black angel has a krib bite out of his side.

 

Yes, the angel needs to stay out of there. He could be severely injured by the kribs.

Yes it is, we have some golden apple snails in all of our tanks.

 

Woo hoo!! We've got wigglers. SO next week we'll have swimmers!!!
No pix, I cannot see in the pot to get a decent one.
Kribs as parents are just like my convicts minus the meanness. Even the wiggly eggs remind me of our convicts pairs. I hope they will have equal amounts of sexes...but I doubt it.
