I have had a male kribensis for a while now and he has turned down two females as mates.
He looks in good health is eating well, but what should i look for when picking out the female, ( i dont mean sexing i can do that pretty well)

When i picked my male he was the dominant of the tank in the store, my thoughts are to pick the domanent female, is this right?

Is is much easier to pick 6 juviniles and let them grow and pair up then it is to buy a male and female adult. Since he is dominant you will need a tough gal to be with him. Maybe you should divide the tank. You can do this pretty cheaply as a temporary thing and then put the male in one part and female in another and let them get to know each other while protecting the female then if they seem to do ok remove the divider but keep a close eye on the female to make sure he's not being to aggressive.
