I have 2 kribensis but I think they both maybe male the big ones always after the little one and doesn't let it go anywhere near its territory and when it's feeding time he chases the little one off but it does get food as it spreads round the tank with the water movement of the filter fine with all the other fish does this sound like 2 males as I wanted a male and female

Back when I had them there was no possibility of mistaking males for females and vice versa.

Now they seem to look rather similar. Perhaps this is a result of their mass breeding on farms.

We discussed this on fishlore recently and I remember this from that discussion:

"The way to sex Kribs is to look at the ventral fins. The first ray, the spine in the ventral fins, is the longest ray of a male's fin. On a female the soft rays are longer than the spine. All the other color and finnage methods are unreliable."

Nice pics thanks. It seems clear that the top one is a female and the bottom one is a male.

I remember being lucky and mine were inseparable on introduction to the community tank and followed each other everywhere.

But mine went through a phase where the male chased the female and had her hiding behind an Amazon Sword leaf at the top of the tank where kribs would not normally go. I think the female was not ready to breed and the male was claiming the whole tank as his territory.

It all changed for the good when I put them in the breeding tank and they were a pair again. This may have been because the new tank was neutral territory I think and a new arrangement between the fish had to be formed.

Thanks for that well I had a betta before he died sadly but I added him to the comic it and he never thought it was his territory and got along fine but the male has taken the pirate ship for him self and bully's everything when g food is about hes particularly nasty towards he gouramis but by particularly I mean more than the other fish but yes he chases the female she hides under some bog wood which is sort of like her own little cave I suppose when she gets bigger they will maybe pair up I have another tank but it's not big enough for them really it's only 54litres
