Koralia Nano (425GPH) Circulation Pump

Good morning,

Yesterday I added a Koralia Nano Circulation Pump (425gph) into my 265g tank. I placed it at the bottom back corner of the tank a few inches away from the substrate so that the wave/current flows across the entire back/bottom portion of the aquarium.

The reason I added it is to help prevent detritus from settling in the back of the tank in my substrate, making the filters do more of what they are intended to do, which is suck up detritus.

It's working! As soon as I turned it on, I saw some of the detritus begin to float toward the filters intakes and overflow box.

My goal is to make the filters work more and me work less when it comes to vacuuming the tank.

I'm considering adding a second one to the opposite end.

The pump is silent!

Glad it's working Ken.

Are any of the fish playing in the current?

Hello Ryan,

All of the Bloody Parrots had to check it out. I did notice a couple of them enjoying the extra flow. It was fun to watch.

Thanks for the help and suggestions!

It's like their own infinity pool now. Thanks for sharing this. I was having a theoretical conversation with my dad about something like this last night. I'll have to share the link with him.

Amazing how a simple thing like flow can change your fish

I'm glad it's working out, and you're enjoying it

Good morning,

I've ordered a second Koralia Nano Circulation Pump (425gph) to add to the 265g tank. I'll place it on the opposite end of the tank, also in the back.

I'll post a review of the Koralia's after a few weeks of use.

The second circulation pump has been added into the tank.

I'll do an update next month when I vacuum the tank. (if not before)

Ken

One pump on each end of the tank, close to the bottom, facing each other, forcing the detritus up toward the overflow box, wet/dry filtration.

Can't wait to hear how it turns out.

Good morning,

The circulation pumps are doing great and I'm even passing on the regular scheduled vacuuming for today. Although I did do my regular scheduled water change and filter maintenance.

The filter pads that I replace every 5 days are twice as filthy than they were prior to adding these pumps! I'm impressed!

I'm going to try a little experiment and maybe I can eliminate vacuuming the 265g tank all together or at least only have to vacuum every few months. In the link below, the last photo in post #5, you can see the tube running from the 29 gallon prefiltering tank to the 265g tank:
https://www.fishlore.com/aquariumfishforum/threads/prefiltering-water-for-water-changes.74204/

This tube is pumping freshwater into the tank and I can use the hose and direct it to force detritus from under the substrate, stirring it and causing it to flow around and be sucked up by the filters. As you can see my substrate is large river rock. (Mag Drive 750)

It's great to be able to go under the tank stand and look up to see how much detritus is actually under the substrate .

I've ordered a Nitrate Test Kit to be on the safe side and will test for a while or until I know for certain that what I'm doing isn't going to cause any harm to my fish.

Cross your fingers!

Thanks!

Ken (Carol, I ordered my first 2L bottle of Prime today from Ken's. Thanks!)

That's awesome Ken, great result!

I wouldn't expect a nitrate spike, but good idea to be on the safe side

Sounds good! Do you have other circulation pumps in the tank other than these two new ones?

Thanks Ryan, Dlondon!

I only have the 2 circulation pumps at the moment.

Update:

The pumps are working well, however, I'm vacuuming the entire tank once a month to keep my Nitrates under better control. The amount of detritus that I see on my filter floss and pads has surely increased which is good. These pads and floss I do not depend on for beneficial bacteria purposes. They are replaced for fresh every 3 days.

HI Ken, glad you're having good results.

They are replaced for fresh every 3 days.

Ken
But I gotta ask - Really ??? why?

I get 3-4 months out of one piece. Is it the way your wet/dry works?

HI Ryan,

I change my filter floss and pads to remove the most amounts of waste from the filter that I can, thus helping to keep the Nitrates, pH and Ammonia under control along with circulation. I have a lot of other filter media for beneficial bacteria purposes.

Too, for the Wet/Dry filtration, if these pads and floss clog, then I get a back up onto the top panel of the wet/dry.

The micron pads that I use clog easily. They have to be soaked in bleach/water solution, air dried and then they are ready to be used again.

Thanks Ken, and thus the question is perfectly answered

I knew there was a reason

For followers, my filter is a canister filter.
