Koi Pond Help

I’ve always wanted koi, and I’ve just reached the point where I am able to build a pond to keep some in
But now I’m really struggling to design it
I’ve attached a scale photo of the area that I’m working with, the shaded area is a tree that I could take out but would rather not.
I was thinking of putting it in the top area, so it would be around 5.5m by 3m. Would this be big enough for four koi?
Does anyone have any other ideas?

 

First, I want to say that's not going to work with that tree... Their roots are longer and wider than the actual leaves and branches of that tree, so you're going to have an awful time digging up massive roots. Plus, it could kill that tree if you destroy the roots.
Other than that, 5.5m by 3m if it's 2ft (totally forget what that is in meters, lil less than one) or 1m deep, then yes, it's big enough for four koi

I didn’t really think about digging with all the roots. Maybe I should do one of those ponds that’s above the ground... would that work?

If you get similar measurements, absolutely it would! Just has to be at least 24" deep, and depending on where you live, you may want to overwinter them indoors.

 

So Now I’m doing some major re thinking on my koi pond that I want to build. Is a pond that is 3 meters by 2 meters and 1.5 meters deep ok for koi? If it is then how many would I be able to keep in it?

It would be enough because it’s around 9000 liters. Maybe around 4 koi but if they breed then you will probably have to rehome them.
