Koi Guppy Breeding Journal

Hi,
I've just joined this forum before I posted this thread but I've used it before.I've had my 40 gallon tank for about a year now and I've had angelfish in it. I decided I wanted to get red cherry shrimp and guppies instead. Last week I added 15 cherry shrimp, lots of plants and I added a trio of some common guppies. Two days ago I got a pair of Koi Guppies and put the trio in my pond. My tank currently has 15 adult cherry shrimp and quite a few young ones which were born a few days ago and a pair of koi guppies. The female is heavily pregnant and will give birth very soon and I'm planning to fill my 40 gallon tank with these wonderful Koi guppies. I'll keep this thread updated so if you're interested keep checking here!

Btw water parameters and everything are all good. Heres a few pictures of the tank (sorry but my camera is really bad)

Theres guppies and a plant and I have another small pond with koi. BTW my guppy tank has one platy fry which did even grow to 1cm yet.

About 50-60 gallons with 3 koi

I believe 3/15 shrimp are males and about 10 have a saddle. Here are some pics
Btw are they albino koi guppies? I think they are. They have red eyes and the female has a red gravid spot

Sorry for all these replies. I just managed to snap a few pics of 2 little shrimp
The shrimp in the first picture is actually red already but my camera is bad so the colouration doesn't show.

Congratulations!
Thanks! Ive managed to save 11 fry and I had planned to keep them in the tank with the parents but the male was eating them all so I put them in a 2 gallon breeder box I made myself and ill add an airstone in tonight. The fry are all albino and are all healthy and swimming

Get some guppy grass for the surface and you will be able to raise them in the same tank (a nice pocket of 6x6 inch guppy grass will allow the fry to hide successfully without the adults being able to get into it).

Btw I have a question. I want to fill my tank with koi guppies but I can only do that by using the pair I currently have and the fry. But I don't think the fry should breed with each other when they become adults or is it fine?

Generally 5-6 generations is a limit for how far you want to breed the colony. You will need to add new blood (or trade for it) to make sure you aren't breeding deformities to be fixed, about 3 generations is a good time to add new ones. So the fry you now have(first gen), the fry they have (second gen), and then the fry that those fry have (third gen) - your parents are F0 (originating gen), and you do not know if the male you currently have fathered the fry your female just dropped, so the fry may be more distantly related to him.

It takes about 2-3 months to have males and females with sure sexing and by that point your female should have dropped two more batches of fry (I would have surface cover in place before those drops to ensure you have hidey spots for the next fry that the males can't eat), once the current fry are bigger than the parents' mouths you can put them back in with them (1-2 weeks is a good range, my 4 day old fry normally are able to hide and get out of the way of hungry mouths).

I can't really get a new bloodline of koi guppies though. And I doubt the male is the father as they were in a tank with about 5 pairs of purebred koi guppies (that's what they were said to be)

In two to three months you may be able to find another supplier that has them, which will add some new blood to your colony.

Not because of the supplier

I added a plant and airstone to the breeder box and ill keep them in for a week to me able to monitor the fry better as one doesn't swim a lot.
