Kissing Goramie Not Eating

image.jpg Hi! About three days ago I got two fish from a pet store, a kissing goramie and a dinosaur bichir. The bichir has been eating great and is even fattening up a bit but he kissing goramie not so much. Now I understand that you have to give fish time but is it possible I am feeding the wrong thing? I am currently trying to feed her flakes (I also feed these flakes to my community fish) but she doesn’t seem interested. I would love to feed her krill so she can be on the same diet as my other fish but I read that they won’t eat krill. Could I feed her pellets? Thanks (also keep in mind they are only in a 20 gallon QT right now)

Sometimes he will look like he is gulping air from the surface when food is in the tank, is that how they eat?

That’s just them getting more oxygen since they are labyrinth fish. And it’s getting used to the new tank. You can feed it flakes or small pellets but make sure to feed it some vegetable food because they are omnivores

I would continue feeding it flakes. It is probably still adjusting. They filter feed in the wild. They lack teeth. I'd avoid pellets.

Hi! I recently got a marbled kissing goramie and as the title suggests, it’s not eating much. It does eat a little bit but it almost seems like a acsident. It is in a 20 gallon QT tank and is the only one in there. I will be moving it to my 130 gallon later on but I want to make sure it is eating and healthy. I am getting a baby Oscar in Tuesday of this week and he is going in the same QT as the goramie and I am hoping that if I can get the Oscar eating, it will encourage the goramie to eat. What are your thoughts? Thanks

I'd not be adding any fish till you get your gourami in shape. Also, 20gal would not be a good quarantine for two large, personable fish. They will likely end up fighting if kept in a tiny 20gal. I understand that both are still small but either way both are aggressive species and I'd not risk it, especially if one or the other isn't in good shape.

The goramie looks healthy and does swim around, he just isn’t eating yet.

Also I special ordered in the Oscar so I don’t really want to leave it with the pet store.
