Hello everyone, I got a good question for you today. I know you shouldn't keep crystal shrimps with cherry shrimps because they require different water parameters, but here's my situation:
Both are heavily planted tanks.
Crystal shrimp water parameters:
PH 6.8 - 7.0
Ammonia, nitrites, nitrates are at 0.
Seachem flourite substrate.
Cherry shrimp parameters:
PH 6.0 - 6.4
Ammonia, nitrites, nitrates are at 0.
Fluval stratum substrate.
I started both tanks at the same time about 2 months ago, one for the cherries and one for the crystals. I am still new to the hobby and by mistake I put my crystal shrimps in the higher PH tank. I don't think it was too bad because I still have my 15 crystal shrimps, none of them died, but they aren't breeding either.
Now I look at the red cherry tank, and I have 3 pregnant females! This tank is very healthy. I'm just surprised the cherries are thriving in such lower PH, which brings me to my question: Should I move my crystal shrimps to the cherry shrimp tank with the lower PH? At first I also wanted to move the cherry to the higher PH tank but since they are obviously thriving in my low PH tank should I just leave them in there? What do you think? I feel like I could just have 1 shrimp tank instead of 2.
Thanks for your help!
