Keeping Male Platy Segregated From Females

I just got a pair of platies from my LFS and as a rule keep only females, but this time a male came in the mix. I really, REALLY don't want them to breed, so I ended up separating the little guy until I can go back to the shop, but that will be until next Friday. Until then, I have an empty quarantine tank and the 10 G with the betta, but neither option seems nice so I was wondering if there's a way to keep the platy in the same tank as the rest while segregating it somehow? Like a breeder tank of sorts. I just really don't want to risk a population explosion. Right now he's on a plastic container on top of the tank, kind of, obviously trying to swim down. It seems less mean than leaving him alone for a week or with a betta. I don't know. It's the first time they give me a male by accident. I tried trading it elsewhere too, but nobody wants it 'unless I bought it from them' so.

Could be him and the betta get along great and you don't have to get rid of him!

A breeder box or net almost seems more mean....can see the other fish but can't get to him, but yeah, that is an option.

Would it be ok to try housing him with the betta even if it's just the two of them, then?

Yeah, I agree.

You can try it, but be ready to pull him out and keep an eye on it for awhile. Seems like a better option to at least try.

Will do. The betta is quite lazy so I hope he doesn't mind too much. Thanks for the help!

For future reference, buying only female livebearers won’t necessarily prevent reproducing. Many times they are already pregnant at the store. Good luck with the male!

That's very true.
Also, update: against all odds, the platy and betta ended up getting along. The betta was grouchy at first but just kind of let him be after that. I'm surprised (in a good way) and really thankful for the suggestion as I wouldn't even have given it a chance before :D
