30 Gallon Tank Keeping amano with cherry or similar shrimp

Hello everyone

I have a mature 33g (125L) tank of which I have cardinal tetra, rasbora, 2 honey gourami, one dwarf gourami and a few Corys. In this tank I also have around 7 amano shrimp in it at the momen, I was thinking of adding some cherry’s, blue dream or something like that to the tank but was told that the amano shrimp would eat all the other shrimp. Is this true ? Few years back I had mixed shrimp in a tank and it was the fish that ate them not the other shrimp.

would like to see what everyone thinks. Pic of my shrimp just to make sure it’s an amano shrimp :)

thanks
Craig

I've kept cherries and amano's in almost every tank I've owned- never had issues with amanos eating other shrimp. Granted- there are tons of cherries and I don't watch each shrimp 24/7. I've never heard of amanos predating on cherries either.

That’s the answer I was wanting. Personally i have never heard that from anyone before either, not my usual go to lfs but the only one from which had ANY shrimp in my area.

I've kept both in the same tank and have never lost one to a amano.

I have a large colony of cherries and 2 Amanos in a 10g. No casualties that I can count, they share food, but the Amanos will take food off if they choose.

This may be equally bad information, but I remember reading somewhere that ghost shrimp will sometimes attack and eat other shrimp. Maybe whoever you heard it from got amanos and ghosts confused?

Same here; keeping around 10 amano shrimp and perhaps 2 dozen neocaridina shrimp in a 40 gallon; never seen any neo chased or grabbed by an amano. The population of neocaridina doesn't grow, but I attribute this to neo offspring being eaten by the few darios in the tank.

Perhaps someone confused amano with macrobrachium shrimp? The latter will grab neo shrimp for sure....and amano....and conspecifics...

I'm not aware of any colors of neocaridinas being more hardy than others. I have noticed that my blue shrimp need much less culling than the red ones, so if you want to make it easier to keep the colors consistent you might consider that.

Of course that's just my personal experience, and I don't have any published research to back it up. Others may have had different experiences.

it's your fish that will eat your shrimp.

I have a 5g tank w loads of plants..5 large amanks and abt 50 nano shrimp of different colours. The nano often will climb onto the amano...n the amano often run 'over' the shrimps and they will just jump away. No casualties at all n pretty fun to watch the 2 species interact. But I would be careful w the gouramis though...when I got my gouramis they just sick in baby guppies the size of red cherry shrimps w a gulp ..don't know it will treat shrimp as food..
