Just Spotted a baby!

Hi while I was doing a water change I nearly sucked up this little guy. I never thought my Peppered Cory eggs would survive because the female usually eats them as she's laying them and if she doesn't the other fish in the tank do. I can only see this one. What should i feed it? I raised my 3 Platy fry on first bites so is that ok again?

Congrats! Baby corys are probably the only thing cuter than corys in general.

First Bites should be fine, it will sink/settle as long as it's not being immediately sucked up by a filter on the way down or something. Or you can grind flake food in your fingers to a fine enough consistency as well.

Anything that easily breaks up into small particles in the water can be good also, such as the Aqueon shrimp pellets. Hikari Fancy Guppy is also pretty good fry food, when they get to the point of looking more like miniature adults vs. tadpoles.

 

An established tank will have more than enough infusora ( small bugs) living on all old plant material for dozens of fry. Adding one quarter of a match head of dry food per day will be to much food.Be very careful how much dry food you add. Personally I think adding leaf litter or an old dirty ornament would be more logical.. They are micro predators that eat small creatures .
Micro worms are an easy live food culture for this species. As the worms sink and stay alive in fresh water for hours you don’t risk polluting the water with dry dust that does not move . Dry dust may not even be recognised by what is essentially a wild creature.

 

That’s awesome. I had 3 or so make it to adult hood in a community tank. It was moderately planted and they found plenty to eat without me directly feeding them. It was one of the coolest things watching them mature “naturally” without any intervention by me.
