Meet Nugget

He's my rescued bull terrier boy. We had lost our pitbull really suddenly and traumatically and, when we were ready, decided we wanted a BT but we only rescue so I figured we'd be looking for months for one but the very day I went online to look at the local rescues, there he was! It really is like he was there waiting for us. How he sat in a rescue unadopted is beyond me. And furthermore, there's a bull terrier breeder who has a relationship with the local rescues wherein they call her whenever they get one, she pulls it and sells it for much more money. I've met her and some of her Kool-Aid drinking followers before just out and about. She was pretty nice, but her followers are usually pretty indignant that the rescue didn't call her first to pull him out.

Because he was waiting for me, that's why

24 hours later I went down to meet him.
24 hours later the rest of the residents came to meet him (rescue requirement).
That day he came home.

I've also attached a photo of my boy Leo, RIP, my big chocolate meatball nose. I miss him every day.

What sweet dogs you have there. So sorry about Leo. I wish people had some concept of what terrier breeds are really like before deciding that they're all monsters. I had to look all over creation for a complex that would allow my dog to live on their grounds, but my dog would never hurt anyone. I wish I could be more like my dog, but no one can be like a dog. We have not evolved to that point yet.

What sweet dogs you have there. So sorry about Leo. I wish people had some concept of what terrier breeds are really like before deciding that they're all monsters. We have not evolved to that point yet.

I feel the same. When I found Leo, I was in the process of moving on a deadline. And I couldn't find a place that would allow me to have him but I knew he was meant to be mine so I kept holding out. We didn't find a place so were preparing to store everything and crash with some friends but, literally AS we were moving out, I checked Craigslist and found a place. That's the breadth of my dedication to my pets. I'd rather be homeless than be someone without them.

As for bully breeds, I'm a huge advocate. Leo was BADLY abused. He was covered in scars on the front of his body (which made me think fighting) and that ear that flops down in the photo only does so because it was torn. Worst of all, he had a lazy eye secondary to head trauma.

He had some issues with dog aggression and, after awhile, the brain injury created some pretty bad behavior in him. He started to turn schizophrenic, literally. We had to put him down. I can't even type anymore about it because the tears are coming. It was the single most traumatic and upsetting experience of my life, and I've had a lot of them.

I continue to advocate for the bullies and Nugget is very much a breed ambassador. With him, I've had the privilege of educating a lot of people and dispelling a number of myths and I do this not by over-reacting but by being calm and respectful to the person I am trying to educate. Unfortunately, I've also encountered a lot of people who chose to remain ignorant in the face of education and were dramatic and hateful. We've been screamed out of dog parks. I had a neighbor try to poison him with anti-freeze soaked food on my lawn and bit of meat with razor blades inside. I never found out who did it, but I rallied the neighbors and it stopped. If I ever find out who is responsible, I'm not going to remain the non-judgmental educator of ignorant types. I'm going to flip out.

For these reasons, Denver, CO is a place I'll never visit. They've implemented breed specific legislation, going so far as to declare themselves independent of the state of CO I believe in order to pass this hateful piece of legislation. When we moved cross country with Leo to Pittsburgh from CA, we had originally planned to take the northern route, passing through Denver. I came to learn that we couldn't even drive through Denver, even if we didn't stop, because of Leo's breed. And that's when I decided I didn't even WANT to take that route. I have been told stories of family bully dogs literally being pulled from their homes to be euthanized in line with the legislation. Dogs with no history of aggression and legally registered, vaccinated, etc. People's family pets. Being pulled out of their homes ****-style to be euthanized.

It makes me sick. But I do what I can. There are some bullies out there that have issues, but it's not the bully. It's a direct result of the bad breeding and abuse incurred by PEOPLE. And rather than take responsibility for this, we blame the dog. I do what I do for the bully breeds to honor Leo, who was my heart. And losing him because someone else abused him...that's not something I want anyone to ever have to experience.

Sorry for the long post. This is a cause I've been dedicated to for a long time and feel very passionately about. There aren't a lot of people who understand it, so when someone does, I unload

I have wanted one of these. Saw a great video of one on YouTube willfully jumping on a trampoline. Somersaults and everything. It was awesome.

He is adorable, all squishy and rolly like. Name?

I love when people give their dogs high-brow aristocratic names haha. I really do.
