I am never happy with how my 55 gallon looks. I've rearranged the right hand side today and it looks better but something still doesn't seem right.
Took this picture of it and it gives me a very different view of the tank and I think it could be the background that is ruining it. I just upgraded to this dual T5HO fixture, I'm hoping this will give the plants a boost to out compete the algae that was starting to take over them. I don't dose this tank like I do some of my others and I don't plan to.

I have some pearl weed in there just to try it out, it seems to be doing good in my Fluval Spec V with stock lighting. There is also one little chainsword and its runner that I am hoping will fill out the foreground a bit over time.

Constructive criticism is welcome on the scaping, Tank clarity isn't at its best since I was just stirring everything up and this tank is now awaiting a 10 gallon water change.

I feel like you need a little more of everything in there- rocks, wood, and plsnts. A nice big piece of wood on one side pointing to the center, some rocks in the blank sand space with low laying plants around it, some taller background plsnts like sword or something. I would have so much fun with a large tank like that. I just re did my 29 gallon (thread in aquascaping)

I wish I had the stuff to fill out the tank but wood is so expensive. Those rocks are actually cichlid stones with the holes turned down but they work well.

you don't have to buy woods...

I never buy any kind of decorations(unless substrate and live plants) I collect my own, you could have oak woods and stuff like that go to your local lake or something...you will be surprised.

Theres also the worry of parasites or other nasty things, and I don't have the ability to boil wood that would be large enough to suit a 4ft tank.

I do plant on more plants, I have a 20 gallon just for growing plants, I'm waiting for a green and bronze crypt to get full enough to propagate for some more foreground definition.

If the chain sword takes hold it should fill out nicely and maybe even the pearl weed will grow into a nice bushy area.

I am not worry about parasites only if you DONT boil the woods(or using water)

as I said, collecting woods I am not talking bout gigantic ones but sticks...

they looks beautiful I tell u.
