I just got back from my LFS with 6 baby/small amano shrimp!

Right now I put them in a spare 2 gallon I had sitting for a week or so after taking some fry out.. I rinsed it with water(might have had some dust.. was sitting for a week) and put my main tank water in. It does not have a filter or heater.. thankfully the water stays around 76ish by itsself.

Its only staying like this until they get alittle bigger, then I will put them in my main display. Doing this because my pig guppies will nip at them for sure seeing how their so small.. rather not have that. I had a guppy put a neon tetra in its mouth when I first got the tetras

Anyways, I talked with my LFS dude, he said alge wafers are great to feed them.

My question is how much should I feed them? 1 full wafer for all 6? Half? 1/4?

How often do I feed them? I feed my display every 2 days.

Thanks all in advance

Your shrimp are going to need oxygenated water. You can get that from a bubbler, filter, or lots of live plants. I’m not sure about feeding them though

You can drop an algae wafer in and they'll all swarm to it.

You can also buy them HikarI Shrimp cuisine.

They'll eat just about anything

This is a bit morbid, but just the other day I had my ghost shrimp swarming over a dead lyretail

I've always preferred Yamato/Amano Shrimp, they live 6-8 years when in good conditions and ghost Shrimp kinda scare me xD

Thank you all! Should I just drop a single whole wafer? Half of it? How often? Maybe mix it up with sone flakes?

Seems to me a risky game you're playing.
Shrimp are more sensitive to water parameters and placing them in a unfiltered tank seems ... Not good.

They usually are a good addition to aged tanks and pick around at things that I can't even see.
They also may steal a blood worm or entire wafer to themselves.

Good luck

Whatever food you decide to drop in there and if it's not eaten in about an hour I'd remove any remainder food out of the tank. I'd probably feed every other day too because of their situation. You don't want the water parameters to spike with any uneaten food. With that said, I'd be checking water parameters with an API water test kit too for the tank isn't cycled.

I feed my fishes flakes and sometimes freeze dried bloodworms, the flakes would drop to the bottom and the shrimp will eat it, I have red cherry shrimps, as the others say, they literally eat anything, they even swim to the top of the tank and use the fish as stepping stones to get to the flakes. But on occasion I drop wafers and shrimp food - they are not fussy at all. You could probably get away with just "complete" fish flake food without a budget for shrimp food...
