A journal about my newest betta, Juno!

Adopted April 29th, 2020 from my local fish store

Juno was sold and labeled as a longfin female betta. Judging by her fin patterns she is a veiltail!

So far she gets along great with her tank mates! She was the least dominant betta in her sorority at the store, so I figured she was perfect for this tank.

I’m interested to hear your thoughts on her color.

Yes!! That looks exactly like her. Is there a name for that pattern? Or just pastel purple and blue?

I think it might be a variety of Cambodian, but I could be totally wrong. Her fin color resembles this:
Female Cambodian Betta
But the body color isn't right, since Cambodians are supposed to have a fleshy pink body and not a white/gray/blueish, which is where the pastel might come in. Or perhaps it's an acceptable body color for Cambodians?

I’m not sure on the acceptable colors for Cambodians... I’ll have to do more research on that. I was looking up colors and found that she may be a poorly colored Thai Flag Betta? It’s a bit of a stretch but she does resemble a few of the pictures.

I don't think she's a Thai flag - those are pretty hard to come by, even in LFSs that specialize in high quality bettas. I live close to one that is always bringing in high quality bettas from a whole range of breeders and they send out an email list of all their new stock, including bettas, each week, and I've only seen Thai flags on there once in the past two years. Her body should be blue (it's pastel), and her proximal fin coloring should be white (it's blue), and distal fin coloring should be red (it's purple). Her fins are an ombre rather than the distinct transition that Thai flags have.

Here are some more pictures of Juno!! In person she really has a pastel blue sheen to her but it’s really hard to catch in photos. I think she likes this tank, she’s always exploring and very active.

1D921826-B575-4460-A947-9CA989DE5681.jpegShe’s getting to be really chunky hilarious She keeps stealing the shrimp/snail food and I’ve even watched her snatch a tiny crumb of food right from a shrimp. She really needs to stop eating so much it’s getting concerning...

E39C2CAC-0511-4AF8-A8B9-B0F5EE0BD864.jpegThis girl is honestly such a joy to have!! She’s got the perfect temperament and is such a lady to the other fish/snails/shrimp in the tank. Her only fault is stealing food from them hilarious I don’t think she’ll get much bigger than she already is. For now having her for nearly 2 months and not seeing much growth I think this is the size she’ll stay. My past female bettas got quite big but maybe this girl is just small.
