Jkkgron2’s 15 gallon

I recently picked up a Fluval flex from my LFS and added hardscape two days ago. Yesterday I filled up the Flex and added plants. It has pearlweed, Bacopa, Rotala, A tiger lotus, and crypts. Today I transferred over some established filter media (enough that it should be able to support a decent bioload right away) and added in 3 male guppies. Really liking it so far. Once the plants establish I’ll be trying to get a pearlweed carpet.

I recently picked up a flex as well. I'm using as a quarantine tank at the moment but thinking of transferring my shrimp to it after a little scaping. It's a nice looking tank.

Nice looking tank. That tiger lotus is going to take over though! Lol! I bet a few shrimp would look nice in there.

It wasn’t doing that well in the tank I had it in beforehand and that big leaf is rotting so hopefully it’ll bounce back! Once the tank is established I’ll try to find some good-quality shrimp for the tank. :)

The other two in there, or just all my guppies?

Weren't you the one who designed the layout?

In her other thread pertaining aquascaping suggestions for this 15 gallon, I did supply a mockup aquascape design that she could use if she wanted to. I am now offering to make these designs for anyone questioning or contemplating their own aquascape so they could see exactly what I am thinking their hardscape design may look like fully planted.

Finally managed to get a good picture of the smallest male guppy. The other two look almost identical so I’m not going to try to get another picture of them. I also added in 5 females. I will be adding in some very small and young bn plecos and angelfish to grow out. Definitely won’t be permanently keeping them in there, but I will be growing them out in there.

My tiger lotus leaves rotted like that when I moved it too; but 2 weeks later I now have 4 healthy new leaves. My apontogeton did the same thing. Perhaps they stop feeding the leaves while they are reestablishing root hold?

Yeah, that would explain a lot. It’s sending out new leaves now and a lot of them too. It’s in a bad spot to get pictures of it but the new leaves are way redder and look much healthier.

Today I added in the new plecos and angelfish. I also moved the tiger lotus, it didn’t have enough space where I first planted it. The angels are silver blushers and the plecos are longfin lemon blue eyed bristlenose plecos. The plecos really stand out and the angelfish look great in there. It’s only been about 30 minutes since I added them but I got some pics. The plecos eyes are not red, it just looks that way because of the lighting.

The angels were bullying the guppies so I put the guppies back in their original tank. Normally I would’ve left them together for a few days to see if it works out, but two of the guppies had what looked to be the beginning of columnaris, so I wanted to get them out before it spread.

One angelfish MIGHT have it, but it could also just be coloration. Hard to tell at this point. I have meds on hand to treat them and although I will treat the guppy tank I’ll just be doing water changes on this tank until they either have been fine for two weeks or get sick and need meds. Really hoping I don’t need to treat them because of how nicely the plants are growing.

The tiger lotus is looking stunning!

In the picture below you might be able to see a little white patch on the angel on the right. it’s above the black spot that’s near it’s eye, but in the picture it’s really hard to see.

One of the angels has a small white patch above it’s eye, around where the sick guppy had the white patch. Its not that big, but it wasn’t there yesterday. Should I treat for columnaris or wait to see if it goes away? I have kanaplex on hand and can start treating tonight. I really don’t want to lose these fish, but I also don’t want to treat them if I don’t need to.

How’s it going?
I added in treatment yesterday and I’m seeing some improvement from the sick angel, but still hard to tell at this point. The plants all seem ok, and all the other fish are doing well.

Today I’ll be adding in the last dose of kanaplex. All the fish besides that one sick angel are healthy and haven’t gotten sick, but that angel is bloated and not looking too good. Hopefully it’ll get better after this last dose, but hard to say at this point.

I hope your Angel gets better soon. Seeing sick fish is the most stressful aspect of the aquarium hobby and I'm sure everyone can agree to that. I'm happy to hear the other fish are doing good though.

It’s a shame that angel is sick, it’s the largest of the four and has really nice coloring. If it’s still hanging on in a week I might do a big water change and add in a 4th dose.

The angel ended up dying :( . All the other fish are doing great though, and the plants are looking healthy. The plecos are finally starting to eat the wafers I’m putting in! Tomorrow I’ll add in carbon to remove the meds. I noticed this weird thing on the filter output, any ideas what it is?

Ok so some things have changed since the last update. Another angel did die, but the remaining two are still healthy and eating. I think they might just have been too young or weak (genetic issue, maybe?) to deal with the infection. I haven’t lost any plecos and all of them are still eating. I added some plants from Marcus fish tanks today and they look stunning. Right now the tank looks a bit chaotic because of all the roots from the new plants. I wasn’t able to bury all of them. Overall though I really like how it looks and I’m excited for the plants to start growing.
