Hey guys so this is my new 29gal Tank! I'm creating this post so other members and I can see the progression and plant growth! I recently finished cycling and have added a few plants! I also just added 6 Red Cherry Barbs!

I have been contemplating which carpet plant would be best for this tank and after researching for hours I still can't decided lol! I just hooked up my C02 yesterday and my Finnex planted plus is currently in the mail. Right now I have the Finnex planted plus 24/7 over my tank. I'm excited to get this tank rolling and will update this post as I go!

also I would LOVE to see other members planted tanks! Your highs and your lows, and your favourite plants & fish

I think an angel would look beautiful in there!

but I am a bit obsessed with angels....so of course I would say that!!

edit: and with the black background and black substrate, a nice platinum angel would really POP in there

I think 29 gallons is a fine size for a single angelfish and a school of smaller fish. (in addition to a shoal of bottom dwellers)

Working on a new 75G myself and I am going with Bolivian Rams as the center piece fish.

Either one you mentioned would be good.

If I'm not mistaken, GBR like warmer water while BR like cooler water. So your center piece fish really could vary depending on what type of fish you want to stock.

I love the Rams and the Angels but can only have one...so many decisions

when your tank is set up I would love to see it

This is true Bolivian Rams prefer slightly cooler water around 74-79 while GBR like their water between 76-84. My tank has been set to 80 since the beginning and depending on which fish I get I'll raise or leave it alone. I really like the German blue Rams so beautiful!!!

Let us know what fish you pick! I'm a big fan of the GBR. Yea they are beautiful, I love the coloring on them but they're so sensitive.

they are extremely sensitive specially when LFS import them in, most don't survive. But here where I live there are a few places I know that breed them locally in our water. I had bought one a few months back for my other 20 gallon and he did great for months Untill my older brother begged me for that tank.

Heres a question I know that the local breeder sometimes gets the male and female to bond(pair) would a 29 gallon be enough to house a pair along with one or two schooling fish? That's if I'm lucky enough to get a paired set.

Will do. Right now I have stripped it to the plate glass because it needed to be completely resealed and needs to have some scratches buffed out of it.

It might be a while before I have it set up. I hate it when life gets in the way of my hobbies.

Lucky you! I wish I had a place that bred them near me. I would have to special order them from my LFS in order to get some that are some what in good shape, the ones at PetSmart are a no go for me.

I think a 29 gallon would be enough to house a pair. It has the same footprint of a 20 gallon long so I don't see why not. They'll probably just become pretty territorial if they spawn.

I don't one know if it's just me but I enjoy and hate the "waiting game" I had my tank and all equipment before I bought an aquarium stand then I decided I wanted to build my aquarium stand ... Yeah I know what the heck, I been waiting months to set up my aquarium however I enjoyed building my stand and I appreciate it more!

That's good to hear I might try and get a pair then, if they do decide to spawn I have another tank I can put them in. Would I have to remove the parents and the eggs? Or just the eggs?

Some people ask me why am going through all this to restore a 75G since they aren't that expensive. This 75G belonged to the roommate of one of my wife's friends and he died. The tank was in bad shape but had some sentimental value to my wife's friend so I am going to restore it and make it as beautiful as I can.

Some DIY projects have nothing to do with saving time or money and this is one of them.

Aww that's amazing! Your wife is going to be so happy that you did that for her friend!! Major points to you my friend! It's going to be great when it's all done!

I'd say go for it, if they don't end up spawning you'll just have a beautiful pair of GBR. I'm looking to get myself a pair of BR for my 75g. Right now I have one who I think is a young male but I'm not sure, I'm not great at sexing Rams haha.

As for the breeding, I just read up on it a little and (anyone correct me if I'm wrong) the article said that the captive breed rams are usually bad parents and will eat the egg before they hatch, while the wild ones are easy to breed and better parents but they demand a specific water quality to sucessfully breed and raise the fry. So I would think removing the eggs is the way to go if the rams you're getting are captive bred.

Here's the link if you want to read up on it more

No problem. I found that link after a quick google search so I'm sure you can find much more in depth info on it. I'm with you on that haha I've been making plans for my 75 gallon (my current tank) for more than a year lol. I'm still making plans for it lol

Here's what's I'm thinking

29Gallon tank stock

8-10 Cherry Barbs
6 SterbaI Cory Cats
1 male GBR (2 If I can get a pair)
8-10 Glaxy Rasbora
6-8 Amano Shrimp

how does that sound?

Hahaha yup I like to plan way ahead of time! I'm one of those people that want to make sure everything is perfect! IV wanted fish since I was very small but my parents didn't want the responsibility but now that I have my own house it's kinda becoming a fish museum lol

I think that Galaxy Rasbora, I know them as Celestial Pearl Danios, are a cooler water species, so they wouldn't be temp compatible with the GBR who require warmer water. Everything else sounds good to me

Yeah I know there max temp is 79 I thought maybe they could deal with 80 if not them what other (Red) fish would you recommend? I want my schooling fish to either be red or have red accents?

You always could to that but it's not recommended. Keeping them at their max temp would probably shorten their lifespan. You could get cardinal tetras, they are a beautiful red and blue (similar to neons but more red) and like warmer water
