Jaysee is considering moving around some of his stock, which will leave him with an empty 30 gallon hex tank. It is 25 inches tall, and has an 18 inch diameter. He asked me to open a thread asking for stocking suggestions. He'd like to try fish that are not already in his (many) tanks.

He has: 37 species/13 tanks - knives, dwarf cichlids, gouramis, rainbows, barbs, corys, tetras, loaches, livebearers, plecos, GW killis, betta, gf, bichir, bushfish, shrimp, crays, snails

Here's a more specific list, but maybe not all-inclusive:
-fancy goldfish named Fish,
-dojos,
-BGK which is awesome and needs a name like "Ink" or "Shade",
-emerald corys,
-yellow rainbows,
-boesmani rainbows,
-rubberlip pleco,
-neon/black neon/flame/serpae/bloodfin/cardinal tetras,
-dwarf neon rainbows,
-pearl gouramis,
-dwarf gourami,
-bettas,
-cherry/gold/tiger barbs,
-GW killis,
-GBRs,
-guppies,
-platys,
-leopard/albino corys,
-red/blue/dwarf crays,
-kuhli loaches,
-bn pleco,
-apistos,
-angelfish,
-ghost shrimp,
-mystery snail,
-MTS,
-ADFs

Good luck. And I'm sure he thanks all of you for your help, and me for posting this for him. Oh, and the bolding is to make him laugh whenever he sees this.

My suggestion: discus. They need tall tanks, and can go into 30 gallons of water, right?

I will now suggest...

-Freshwater Nerite Snails (up to 10)
-Bamboo Shrimp (up to 4)
-Vampire Shrimp (1 only)
-Tylomelani Snail (up to 3)
-Mystery Snail (up to 5)
-Apple Snail (1 only)
-RCS (up to 50)
-Tiger Shrimp (up to 20)
-Amano Shrimp (up to 8)

Don't forget the arowana (no guppies) and red-tailed catfish (that, incidentally, require a school of 4).

Elodea, that's not a bad idea - an invert tank. So far you're in the lead.....I'm pretty sure I'm too lazy for discus.

Here's the thing....This tank is the first thing you see when you come in, being at the top of the stairs. At the moment it's really colorful, which is great, but for me to change it I would have to stock with something REALLY cool and interesting.....

Leave it the way it is. And do an invert tank in a different place in the house.

Yeah, I guess.....I just thought there might be something cool out there that I hadn't thought of already

from what I've read, discus really need to be in a group of 4 or 5 anyhow. You could do a circus tank, with all the weird/creepy sorts of fish, like elephant noses and baby whales.

Yeah, and I'm too lazy to keep discus. The tank has an 18" diameter. The hard part is utilizing the height of the tank.

I'm probably going to just get a new GBR and a couple of male guppies like I had planned.

I am considdering merging my 45 and 30 into a 55 or 75.

I don't see any Angels in there anywhere? They may do well in a hex?

I am moving the fish in the 45 to something in the 55-75 range - the question is whether or not the fish in the 30 join them. The 45 is going to have the angels, but good suggestion. The 45 is going to be an all albino tank

get some of those baseball sized ramshorn and apple snails and then get some skyscraper decorations and do a godzilla-esque takeover of tokyo. You could have some flaming matchbox cars and everything.

How would you suggest keeping the matchbox cars flaming under water?

some orange and yellow epoxy paint, some plastic pre-made fire glued in place, or a matching pastel decorative exterior in a collage of light yellows and reds to bring out the warmth of summer, your choice.

I'm so talking myself into doing this.

Or he might just be a dork.

Guppies and a GBR is lame.

Take the plunge into a reef tank! There are thousands more fish and critters available in the saltwater realm.

Guppies and a GBR would mean keeping the tank as it is...I haven't heard a better idea.

No salt, whatsoever.
