Japanese Trap Door Snail Shell Growth

I was wondering if this was normal shell growth for a Japanese trap door snail, since the color is very different…? I’ve only ever had mystery snails before, and this new shell growth is while he’s been in my tank since arriving about a month ago.

It looks to be normal to grow like that. The blue part of the shell looks pretty eroded though. Do you know you GH and pH?

Thank you for the reply. The pH is usually 7.4-7.8, but I should check again. I’m unsure of what the GH is. I hadn’t known the shell was eroded. :( I thought it was just his coloration. I was wondering if he wasn’t getting enough protein or calcium so I’ve been feeding him more separately to make sure he’s eating. The new shell growth is so drastically different in color. Is there something I’m not doing that is causing this?

I would get a GH test to know where you sit there. Then you will know if you need to add more calcium or not.

Feed him more calcium rich foods like spinach and zucchini just to be sure. If his new shell looks good he may be getting enough now anyway. Maybe the old place he was at had bad water?

Okay, will do. I had forgotten that I had purchased a test kit for GH and KH. I’m glad that I have it! I’ll try the spinach and zucchini. My mystery snails will probably enjoy it, too. I’m not sure, hopefully I didn’t cause it.
