15 Gallon Tank Japanese Blue Endlers are on the way...

I just ordered a trio of Japanese Blue Endlers for my 15 gallon. I am going to be doing a fish in cycle with prime & stability - as I am doing with my 20 gallon right now (everyone is thriving in my 20 gallon - yay!)

I will be posting lots of pictures when they arrive. I ordered priority shipping so they should be here by Friday, I can't wait!

I will update this thread as I go, feel free to post & comment!

I am very excited! Eeee, I hope I will get fry out of these little guys.

I am certainly curious to see them! We don't keep guppies or endlers as my wife feels they are almost too obscene for the kids to see them lol!! But i do find them often quite pretty fish.

I will have some pictures up for ya tomorrow, lol! They should be here around 5 pm, I honestly can't wait to see the little guys in their new tank! Fingers crossed for fry sooner than later!

You have fun with the fry! I am not a huge fan....not a big fan of feeling overstocked...but my wife likes platies and gets a lot of joy watching the fry, which gives me joy. So they can stay lol

So I have no idea why or what happened but my sand and slate for my 20 gallon came and my endlers are stuck at the shipping facility and will be here tomorrow. I hope they are okay when they get here. I paid extra for overnight shipping too. Ugh.

WOO - the endlers are here, and they are fine, thank goodness. Despite being a day late arriving. I plop and dropped everyone in the tank, and they seem more than happy to be out of the dark and out of the bags! The male is already chasing the females everywhere. He was in his own bag, and the females were together, they already look like they could be pregnant possibly? I suppose I should order some food for the fry next. I will try to get some pictures of them later, they are tiny! I love them already though - the male is so small & pretty!

I'm glad your order came in okay! I went splits on an order with a friend that was also delayed by a day... our shipment came in yesterday and all his shrimp were dead. we ordered from shrimpfever and they just chucked all the shrimp in a box with a tiny heat pack not even touching the bag. all my plants were fine though despite being nearly frozen (literally)

did you order from angelfins? I may give them another shot after this lol

I did order from Angelfins! My heat packs were touching the bags and still warm, thankfully! I am so sorry about you and your friends order, eep - I wanted to try ordering from Shrimp Fever, but I'm a little iffy now. What type of shipping did you use? I used Fedex Priority Overnight, it was supposed to be here yesterday, a day late isn't too bad though.

That's actually awful that all the shrimp were dead and the plants were nearly frozen, I would definitely give Angelfins a go, everyone from my first order is thriving and doing awesome aswell!

Hmm.. I am contemplating tossing my Black Devil Snail in with the Endlers, since he could potentially become a snack for my Acaras when they are bigger, I don't know what to do!

We used the overnight shipping too haha, there must have been some sort of issue with fedex in Mississauga because it sounds like we ordered ours a day before you did

shrimpfever is still fantastic for plants, better than angelfins imo, but I have not been impressed with livestock from shrimpfever (obviously lol). I ordered 5 amanos from shrimpfever awhile back that arrived fine and are still alive but they were packed in the smallest bag.. it was maybe 2 inches wide and I traumatized the poor things because I couldn't get a net or even my hand inside the bag lol.

given our combined experiences, id say angelfins for fish and shrimpfever for plants though I am definitely eyeing those tiger lotus from angelfins and am definitely on their email list for when they come back in stock lol

I was thinking the exact same thing - there had to have been an issue in Mississauga, that is where my package got held! I had an other order from angel fins and I used just the fedex ground shipping and that package arrived the next day at 11 am, so that was odd, because the shipping was about $20 cheaper.

I am so glad you told me Shrimp Fever is worth a try for plants, I am going to be ordering some plants next week for my endlers, and I wanted to get some more for my acara tank

So I have had the Endlers for not quite two days & I already have fry! I was just doing a small water change & noticed 2 babies in the tank. I swapped my sponge filter from my acara tank to the endler tank, so the babies don't get sucked up, and put the filter that attaches to the side of the tank on the acara tank.

I am going to order some baby fish food today, I hope they will be okay with crushed flake food for now. I wonder how many more babies will pop out. I am excited. These little guys are SO tiny and cute. I am also going to order a breeder box.

Eeee, what an exciting way to start the day.

These are atleast 6 now. These aren’t the best photos as they are tiny and the lighting is bad.

Congratulations grandma.
Endler fry can survive happily on adult food that is crushed to a very fine dust.

Pure breed adult endlers don’t eat their young. My adult endler / guppy Japanese blue don’t eat their young. Sometimes the juveniles will eat SOME of the next generation.

How to stop the population explosion.
Separate all males including the young juveniles. In 3 or 4 months after another 4 batches of fry the females will stop having young.
Separating the male young needs to be done every week.
I remember how excited we were to have our first endler fry.
You will have to stop soon , it is said no house has enough flat surface for the tanks for one females young in one year?

Just saying live bearers have two names .
The million fish.
The most dangerous fish.

Haha, thank you, my new grand children are too cute.

I am glad to hear that the parents won't eat them, phew. I am planning on ordering some floating plants for the tank, I will skip the breeder box. I have another tank I have to purchase a heater for & than I can separate the males & the females once I have a couple batches of fry. I am super happy to hear that they will be okay with just powdered flake food.

Thank you so much for all the info and advice, I appreciate it - as always!

Double checking you read me clearly.
The females will continue to drop 3 or 4 batches of fry for 3 or 4 months even if you remove the males today.
Need to panic.
The young males can and will breed with any females including mum at 3 months of age. The young females start having fry at 4 months of age.

In my town many shops will exchange juvenile fish for store credit. As you have found the big chain stores don’t stock this species.

Oh, ooop, I have the male out from the females now, wish me luck with my baby explosion that I am about to have most likely. I am enjoying watching them.. for now! Oh nelly, I will have to get the babies separated when I can tell what genders they are. I think there are about 7.

I have just ordered some Caribsea Super Naturals Sunset Gold for the Endler tank, aswell as some duckweed & some moss for the babies to hide in. I am excited for it to get here! I also ordered the last remaining black fire endler that the store had.. I couldn't resist, they are pretty!

I will take some pics in a couple days when I get everything switched up in the tank! It looks like a random mess of random decorations at the moment, ooop.

Oh - I am also thinking about moving my Black Devil Snail & my Bristlenose over to this tank as a clean up crew, as I have ordered another pleco for my Acara tank, I think the snail has a better chance of survival living with the endlers, perhaps.

All 7 of my babies, plus the three parents are all still doing well, thank goodness. I now have a separate 10 gallon on the go for males, I will post some photos of that later after I get the tanks switched around. I can't wait for my sand and plants to arrive! Oh & the new Black Fire endler will be nifty too!

I don’t think any of the tanks have a full house of bacteria?
Continue with the water changes Jacklynn ,fingers crossed for the little guys.

I started cycling the 15 gallon before the Endlers arrived, but it's definitely not fully cycled. I am using Stability on both the 15 & the 10 gallon daily & keeping up with the water changes!

Thank you so much, my fish & I definitely appreciate it! <3

My duckweed, moss, water trumpet, black fire endler & sand all showed up today. The water is a little murky right now, I will post some pictures later though! I am so pleased with everything!
Oh I also temporarily have my new longfin green dragon pleco in here aswell, he/she is only a baby at the moment, I don't get my bigger tank until this weekend, so I figured he would be fine in this tank for a bit, as long as I keep up with my water changes! I am so in love with the little thing, absolutely beautiful, it actually looks like a tiny water dragon.

Oh goodness, I have no regrets ordering this little guy. He is honestly so awesome looking! The water is starting to clear up, I will get some pictures of him soon, I am just randomly guessing he is a boy, time will tell, haha! I can't wait to get my bigger tank all set up, he will look great in it, I will probably end up ordering another one once I do have the bigger tank set up!

I will definitely post some pictures shortly, so keep an eye out! <3

My heater was being weird on my 10 gallon so my males are back in the 15 gallon with the girls... I realize I will have tons of babies. I can trade them to my LFS or get credit. I called and confirmed. I also have a lot of interest on my local FB group. So I’m not too concerned. I got a decent picture of my black fire endler on accident. I’ll post pictures shortly when I hop on my PC. All the babies are doing great; seven still and one of my girls looks like she is going to pop anytime!
Oh and I moved the dragon pleco to my 20 gallon with my acaras and my other pleco: it’s just temporary until I get my bigger tank. They are all babies and I do my waterchanges frequently.
I ended up moving my chola and moss to the other tank when I moved my pleco, but here is the picture I snapped of my little Black fire male!

I LOVE the black fire endler! I recently have really grown to love some of the cool color strains of Endlers out there, this is for sure one of them.

He was the last one available on the fish site I order from, I figured it would be cool to cross him with my Japanese Blue girls and see what the babies look like! I will post pictures in the future, I am very excited to see what they produce.

I received a mixture of community fish from a friend who asked me to take some fish cause her tank is severely overstocked right now - oops. I don't know what half of these little dudes are... I will have to post some pictures later on. I have also added some of the fish to my 20 gallon, I put most of the smaller ones in the endler tank, and so far all my fry are still alive and well. Phew.

I ended up moving all the mollies and platies to the 20 gallon, except 1 tiny baby molly, which is in the endler tank, until it's big enough to go in the 20 gallon with the others.

My one pregnant girl just popped, there are little babies all over the tank. Yay.

My other babies are all doing well - all 7 of them! They are getting bigger, but not big enough to tell the gender yet. They are so cute! I moved all my star grass from the 20 gallon to the endler tank and it seems to be doing much better in there, now that the acaras aren't digging up the roots, and the endlers like to hide in it also.

I didn’t think heat pack were supposed to touch the bag. I thought they were supposed to have something to protect it from overheating. I could be wrong though.

I have decided once my first batch of fry are a little older and I can sex them, that I am going to stick some virgin females in with my black fire male.. I am interested to see what pops up out of the pairing!

I flicked the lights on this morning, and there are probably about 20 more tiny little fry in my tank! I also think I have spotted a few tiny baby bladder snails on the top. My other three bladder snails have grown quickly, and laid eggs all over, heck. It's a good thing I don't mind them & they do a great job cleaning up the tank. I might end up moving some over to my bigger tank eventually. I will have to see what happens.. lol.
Oh and my plants are all doing awesome - considering I am a complete newbie to aquarium plants. The couple random leaves that were floating and grew roots that I planted are all getting more tiny leaves. My stargrass is getting much taller, I am thinking I might have to get in there and trim some dead leaves off of the bottom. I should get some new pictures later on....
