Well, the new 55 is up and running! My blood parrots are already out exploring. They look so happy in a bigger tank betta

I went with a black tank, angle iron stand, and glass top with a light strip. I'm really tired from moving tanks and furniture around all day. Pics will have to wait until tomorrow

36" standard fluorescent all glass light strip since I won't be adding plants. My BP's are like salad shooters. Any plant I try to add is reduced to nothing within days.

Charlie and Dip are doing great! I replaced the eheim heater with an aqueon pro and I love it. Right now I think a school of black skirt tetras or green tiger barbs would go great in this tank. We'll have to see...

Everyone's doing well. When I get around to it I plan on adding a school of black ruby barbs or green tiger barbs.

I picked up O.S.I. blood red parrot pellets tonight at the LFS. I was so happy when it was finally in stock that I bought two cans! Charlie and Dip definitely prefer this food over tetracichlid cichlid sticks.

I'm thinking about adding another air driven filter to the 55g. The water flow with one bottom filter and the eheim isn't what it should be.

I did a 25% water change today. Both the fish are happy and healthy in their new big tank! I'm starting to get a little algae and the "sterileness" of the tank is finally starting to wear off. I swapped the corner filter out for two hydro sponges- one in each back corner. The water flow is much better than before.

I'm still beside myself about what to add to this tank. A school of black ruby barbs? A pair of pictus catfish? Another blood parrot or a kirin parrot? Ah I just can't make up my mind. Lol

I'm ordering mopanI wood to add to this tank. I like the look of it, and I think Charlie and Dip might like the tannins in the water.

Anyone have thoughts on a common pleco for this tank? I really want to try one out but wanted opinions first. They are so cool looking! Unfortunately, I've heard that they become huge waster producers as the get older.

Edit: for anyone wanting to discuss the common pleco question, check out my thread called

I just order another fusion air pump and an undergravel filter. Iknow, I know.

I'll see how it works out in this tank. I've had great luck with them in the past, so we'll see how it goes!

Well, this tank is officially broken in. There's green algae starting to develop on the tank walls

My order from Big Al's in due in tomorrow. Depending on how tired I feel tomorrow night I'm going to try and get the UG filter installed.

Last night I installed the undergravel filter and redecorated the tank. This morning Charlie and Dip are doing well. Still a little skittish but they should be back to their normal selves by this evening. The water is crystal clear and parameters are all in check!

I just left Adam's pet safarI with a blue acara for the 55 gallon with Charlie and Dip. His coloration caught my eye and his temperament is perfect for the blood parrots!

Pictures tomorrow after he settles in

Really, why not? They are such cute, dorky, puppy-like fish I think everyone should have at least try keeping them. They're sort of like oscars, but with a much more manageable adult size.

Its so so so sooooo tempting to get a 120 or larger tank and get a couple oscars lol Some day. Some day *.*

I'm actually planning on a 180 when I buy a house. I could easily put one in my parent's basement and they would be fine with it. I just rather wait until I have a permanent spot for it

Your tank is beautiful. I really love your BPs!!! I have a 60 with 6 fish in it including an Oscar. As you can tell I overeagerly overstocked it as a newbie. I am looking for one more 100+ gallon tank to balance it out.

Congratulations are your new tank. I am totally jealous of you!!!!

Thank you so much! I love these fish so much, almost like they're dogs or cats. In the beginning it can be very tempting to overstock, but I know that it will just be more work for me in the long run.

I like knowing that my tank is big enough for my fish- for life. No scurrying to upgrade in a few months.

I wish you luck searching for a bigger tank. It's stressful and fun at the same time.

This little blue acara is such a cutie. He parades around the tank with Charlie and Dip as if he's the same size

I read that they like to hide so I added a small cave decoration for him. He hasn't touched it yet.

My dogs don't wear collars unless we take them out, even though they're outside dogs. They're getting too old to go on random spree's around the neighborhood any more lol My male Rott mix would rather protect the house, my retriever mix would rather stay close to her 'boyfriend', and my moms lab is 15, so enough said for her LOL

Haha same with this old timer. I have to wake him up when I come home at lunch to let him out.

He was adopted from a rescue group and is required to wear a collar with the name and number of the dog rescue on it. Otherwise e probably wouldn't wear one

LOL My dogs always know who's in and about the house. Not my moms dog, though. She's going deff, AND has selective hearing If what you say doesn't involve "treat," "car ride," "hungry," "dinner," or "walk," forget it

That's good though. Smart. If the dog gets out, the rescue knows that the homes its in can't properly contain them. Though stuff does happen, they'd understand that.
