My EBJD Male & Reg. Female w/bg-fry

This is my male Electric Blue Jack Dempsey with his 2nd mate. My blue is about 15 months old and a little over 6". He is in his post spawn colors as is the female. They are currently in a 65 gallon and have been together about a month. Pictures and a video. Enjoy.

Jill is definitely a Jill. Jack however is likely a Jackie. I'm not 100% on that because is a little out of focus, but it appears to have allot of blue on the lower gill plate, and not allot of spangling on the upper half of the body, both signs of a female. This is a pic of my regular pair when they were about 6 or 7 mos. old.



If you can post another pic of 'Jack' that give more of a side view, I could give you a more educated guess.

help with sex of Dempsey

We have a new baby Jack and was wondering if any member had an idea of what sex he/she is. We believe it's a male but would like opinions.

My Jack!! Got it about a month ago and it was tiny!! It has grown very quickly! It is now almost 4 inches. Lovveees food!! Especially Shrimp, algae wafers and any sort of worm. ☺☺ anyone know if it's male or female?

the blue jeweled throat and lack of very pointy fins indicates female. males have much sharper and longer tips on the dorsal and analfins

lol that's what I called my female Jack too.

 

My Jack took his position as "boss" of the tank today and his colors just popped!!! Lots more yellow and very bright blues. He keeps getting more and more beautiful everyday!! He is 6 inches now. I love seeing all of your jacks as well!
