Hello all! I haven't been on the forum in awhile and BOY do I have some catching up to do!! There are so many new names of people and fish that I don't recognize!

I have to admit, I was pretty shaken up after my Raspy died and I isolated myself from everything betta for a long time. I still have my Lilex and I love him dearly but I was having a real hard time dealing with Raspy's death.

I apologize to all that I was in contact with before that and anyone that I may have ignored. I appreciate everyone's help and support during that time.

I'd like to come back and meet all the new folks and hear about all the new bettas we have in our community!!

Btw, I've recently acquired two new snails (Ivory Snail and Gold Mystery Snail) and a dwarf frog. I am having so much fun with them, and I just purchased them TODAY!!!!!

Hi, Kelly. I am one of the newbies here, and have learned a lot about bettas and other fish in the last month. I am so sorry that your beloved Raspy died, but happy that you still have Lilex. Have fun with your new snails!

Welcome Back, Kelly!!! I Have Missed You...

It is good to have you and Lilex back among us.  It is so true, we have so many new ones lately.  I even have a new baby but have lost all my little girls now unfortunately.  It is going to take you a while to just catch up on who belongs to who.

Do remember how much we love pictures...and be sure to tell Lilex that we missed him.  He is such a pretty little guy.  (now do not tell him I called him pretty..just say handsome)

Gosh, it is good to have you back.  Do NOT apologize, we have all been there and if being away a while helped then I am glad.  We all understand and are thrilled to have you back with us.

Just tell Lilex he got a whole neighborhood of company for Christmas...."Hey, Lilex, look what Santa brought to You!!!"

Oh, I am glad you are back....did I say that already??? Well it won't hurt to say it again.

It's so nice to meet you, cherryrose! This is the place to be. I have learned so much from the users here since I have been a member. It absolutely beats advice that you'll find anywhere else, especially in the pet store! So, hello and Welcome to FishLore! (I love the names of your fish, btw!!)

Rose, thank you so much for the nice re-Welcome! I will send some new pictures of Lilex after the holidays. I'm hoping to get him his new setup (5 gallon tank complete with filter and heater) for Christmas. He is still thriving in his vase but I just want a bigger and better home for him. He has SO much spunk lately and is definitely jealous that I have filled the other tank with things that I seem to love staring at but whenever I stare at the other tank, I make sure Lilex has some personal time too, and then, I really believe he shimmies by the other tank as to say "Ha!! I got her to look at ME!!" Silly boy!

I will also be acquiring another betta in a month or so. Friends of mine are moving to NY next year and feel that their betta would not make the trip. I, of course, graciously offered to take him!! He is a veiltail, semi-drab in color at the moment, but I believe I can fix that. I certainly brightened up Lilex's color and even though I don't feed him what I used to, it hasn't changed a bit. I believe the issues with the other betta are that the owners don't listen to me when I give them advice (they think I'm just bragging that I know more or something) ... Van (the betta) simply lives in his little 0.5 gallon triangular tank and looks extremely peeved most of the time. He won't even know what to DO over here!!!!

Lilex is very pleased with all of his new neighbors and can't wait to catch up and see pictures of everyone so we know we were are reading about!

Waves from the crew here in Texas!! It's good to be back!!

Hello, I would like to introduce myself and Grim. He's my new betta. We are very new to this group, but we already love it! I've learned so much alreadys, and I know GrI'm appreciates it all too!

It's good to hear that you are taking in another betta. He'll be glad to have a new home with someone who knows about how to take proper care of him. I know what you mean when you said "(they think I'm just bragging that I know more or something)" The ppl at work (GrI'm is a desk fish) think i'm nuts to have a five gallon tank for just him and a otto! They also think i'm a bit of a 'know-it-all' because i've tried to help a few of them with their fish. One lady I work with has two three inch gold fish in a one gallon tank. She's upgrading to a five gallon, but that's still not enough room for even one of her fish! Anyway, i've rambled at you long enough. It good to meet you and Lilex, and i'm looking forward to meeting the new guy too!

Take care, ~J~

Hi!

I am mommy to 5 Bettas (2 boys, 3 girls) and one Black Mystery snail. Their names and tanks sizes are in my sig below. Their pictures are scattered throughout this forum.

I'm so glad you are rescueing that poor Betta living in a half gallon bowl! He will be so much better off with someone who knows his needs and cares about him. Please post pics of both your fish when you can.

I too have had many frustrating experiences with co-workers who buy Bettas and don't know how to care for them and get all insulted when you try to give advice. One girl I work with has killed 4 Bettas in less than three months by keeping them in one of those 1/2 gallon "Betta kits". She claims the pet store employee told her to never clean the tank so it can cycle. I tried to tell her you cannot cycle a tiny plastic box as it is NOT a tank! I'm sure she misunderstood what they told her... She wouldn't listen to me and got all insulted when I tried to help. She basically told me I didn’t know anything and didn't know what I was talking about. : (she knows I have 5 Bettas alive and healthy) I even tried to give her the URL for this forum and other sites but she thinks it's nonsense and she knows better. She's planning on getting another poor Betta. :'( Sadly there are millions more like her out there killing fish needlessly.

HI Kelly! It's very nice to meet you. I am also pretty new on Fishlore, but I am loving it. I am on it everyday checking out everyones threads. I have a Betta. His name is Mr. Red. I have only had him for 4 months and I am already very attached to him. When I first got him he lived in a 1 gallon tank and he lived in their for the first 2 months, but he soon discovered that he wanted more space to swim and play so by telling me he wanted more room he started biting himself on his tail and he did quite a bit of damage to it. So, now he lives in a 5 gallon tank. He loves it. We had to over come a few other obstacles since he's been living in his new home, but he's all better and back to his normal self. His tail is still growing back, but it's growing back nicely.

I am so glad to hear that you are taking your friends Betta and giving it a good home. I'm sure that they are sad to leave him, but at the same time are probably glad that he is going to a good home to someone who knows about Betta's and how to take good care of them. Well anyway, welcome back and we hope to see some pictures of Lilex. Welcome back Lilex!!

As another who has gotten soo much help here and loves being here, another welcome back for you ((divakeeks and Lilex and Van, who's going to learn what it is to really swim shortly))

We got Zen on Oct 18th so we're new to all of this.  Am so in love with Bettas now and will never be without one.  I can't share a pic yet cause I bought a $10 dig camera at a drug store and it's hard to see through the very tiny viewfinder, heh.  Working on it and on getting a bigger camera.

We also have 2 ghost shrimp in their own 1 1/2 quart acrylic tank (I know...too small, working on a solution) who were going to be Zen's tank mates until I read a link about a tiger barb getting eaten by a prawn that they thought was a ghost shrimp...really, lol (the link's here in this forum).

My boyfriend recently rescued a snail that rose out of nowhere in the 10 gal tank so that's in its own lil container too.

That's what's going on here for critters and add too Tess, my 8 yr. old cat of course, that got sick drinking some conditioned water...

Oh and I'm getting 2 Otos soon...friends for Zen

I'm sorry for your loss of Raspy    I don't like to think about Zen's time...

Happy Holidays to you and yours divakeeks. Nice to meet you

HI Kelly!

We also arrived here with a sick Betta and in need of advice.  Though he's currently in the dark, as we're treating him for velvet, our Betta's much better.  But that's only because we came here to learn what to do to get him into better health.

Hi, I'm one of those new names.
I don't have a betta yet but I consider myself a member of the betta community.
As soon as I get a new tank again...( My 10 gal cracked , 2gal too small, and new 20gal has Goldfish.) and the needed things I'll get a betta.

Loving Bettas is a necessity on the Betta Board. Owning one isn't in the necessity list. All you have to do is care about them, and that is not too hard to do.

Happy New Year.
