Issue With My Bio Wheel Filter

Hello! I'm having an issue with the flow of water through my marine land bio-wheel filter. Its building up before it goes through the media filter & spilling back through a little secondary canal. Plus, the reduction of the water flow is causing the actual bio wheel to not really spin. See attached picture. Is any of this normal ? What should I do??

Is the cartridge clogged? Try cleaning that, preferably with dechlorinated water. The biowheel should be okay as long as it is turning.

Also check your bearings for your biowheel. (Little grey slots that the wheel shafts rest on) if either are worn try flipping the biowheel so that the shaft is in the other bearing it came out of.

If your biowheel stopped because of this it would cause a back flow of water causing it to use the bypass drain next to the intake tube.

I would also clean your intake tube and impella. If you don't know how, just pull the U tube out. Also, clean the bio wheel parts with a q tip.

I do quarterly cleanings of my HOB filters. (Every three months) I put the media in a bucket of tank water or dechlorinated water. Completely take apart my filter, intake tube screen, intake tube, impeller housing, and scrub out the filter box itself and all its parts in a bucket of dechlorinated water. Just be careful not to submerge your filter box or get the motor/ motor housing wet.
