Isn't it funny how much they mean to us?

In my life, I have had several pets. Cats, dogs, hamsters, and betta fish. Oddly enough, I feel more attached to my bettas (especially Ricktavious, my betta for almost a year) as I ever did any cat, dog, or hamster. Can't explain why...maybe because I spend so much time caring for them, water changes, feeding, playing, etc. Bettas are truely wonderful fish. The personalities they show are amazing. They are like puppies...always wanting to play, eat, and get attention, haha!

It's sad, though, thinking about how our bettas, generally, do not last as long as other pets. I dread the day that Ricktavious goes. Me and him have become very attached. He's such a fun little guy, and so pretty....if you haven't seen a pic of him, he's a vibrant red with long, flowing fins. He's a beautiful fish! It's safe to say that I've caught betta fever, am proud of it, and will continue to house bettas indefinately. Such wonderful fishies they are!

I know - I'm so attached to my fish now! When I was away for a week, I missed them more than my dog and the hamsters, which I was really surprised at.

I think I missed feeding time most, when they're all out looking for food, and everything looks so busy. I've become really attached to my molly (Pongo), who now feeds from my hand
Fortunately I haven't yet lost a fish that I have become really attached to, but Pongo's now ill. I really don't look forward to him going... *sob*

yea, I get tired of people that just dismiss bettas as 'just fish'.. they don't know how much personality these little fish have and I think they're as easy to love and get attached to as any other pet. we love all of ours and wish Bettas had longer life spans.

I honestly didn't realize that fish could be something we could be attached too. Not until my Betta, Nigel RIP. I do have special fish which mean more to me than others.
Like my Angels, plecos & Betta...one of the Datnoids, the biggest one has stolen my heart already. I named him Scooby...he takes off like a bat out of **** when he gets scared. Much like Scooby Doo. :;rab He always comes up to my face tho.
I have one more Angel which I must let go of,Chloe...she keep pairing off with my silver female, Angel. And is aggressive to everyone else. I wish I could keep her but I cannot she is making life hard for the other 2 fish she is with now.

I know what you mean. I just lost my Betta Mr. Guppy to dropsy after having him for 5 years.

The tank seems so empty now not having him waiting at the front of the tank for me to wake up in the morning, or chase him around with a therometer during the day.
