Is Used Tank an aquarium or terrarium?

I bought a used tank off of a yard sale Facebook page for $5. It was advertised as a 5 gallon, but I measured it tonight and it's actually a 10 gallon. Yipee!

The lady I bought it from said she used it for hermit crabs. How can I tell if it's an aquarium or a terrarium? The silicone looks in good shape. It's a little dirty so I was gonna clean it with bleach water really good but I don't want to wake up one morning to dead fish and a flooded floor.

Thanks!

Can you take a picture of the seams inside?

How's that? Sorry for the huge pile of mail in that second one, lol.

Hmm. Those seams look minimal to me but then I'm more familiar with bigger tanks. It may well be ok. Is there any marking on it or tag to show who made it?

All it says is a persons name made in 2011. I'm gonna be really bummed if this doesn't work out.

Can you contact the seller and ask if she got it new and what it was sold as?

Sent her a message but she hasn't gotten back to me. But it is 9:30 at night so I might not hear back until tomorrow.

The glass thickness looks the same as my other 10 gallon but now I'm worried I bought a dud. Maybe someone else can chime in.

It's probably ok. If the glass thickness is the same then it's likely a standard 10 gallon meant to hold water.

I am so incredibly thrilled! I looked again at the made by sticker and noticed an anchor. Some deep googling and I found out it's a Perfecto tank, made by Marineland! Squee!!

Out of curiosity, what are your plans for the tank? (Stock)

That's a great question. I keep bettas, and while I love them (I did just get a new cute Koi guy) I want to try a community. Maybe do the betta with a school of tetras? I'm not exactly sure. I'm on my phone, so I can't tag her, but I know TexasDomer is great with stocking suggestions.

I don't think any tetras can be in a 10 gallon, they are very active

Tetras are fin biters but I've heard that a female betta and ember tetras can work

He's a plakat, so no long fins.

Just watch closely because Plakats can be more aggressive than the average betta.

Yeah, I know. He's really young and seems more shy than aggressive. Maybe if I get this thing up and running soon he'll grow up living in a community.

Well, if he is young then when his hormones kick in there may be trouble.

By young I meant he's a young adult, probably around 4 months old. Not a baby but not as old as some of the fish you find at store.

Thanks for the help on identifying the type of tank. Guess I'll be off to find out what to keep in it now
