Is this too many plants in tank - 36 gal Bow Front?

Strider1520

The tetras and gourami really dig hiding in plants and the danios love swimming through them - when I mainly just had the vals. LFS had octopus plants for cheap (like $0.75/stem) so I picked up 12 of them and a shipment I had ordered finally came in with some Crypts and spiral vals (just got them in today). What do you think - too much? The tank is for what the fish dig - not just for me to view. Do you think they have enough free area to swim in? Newbie, so need your ideas if you think this too much plants? Added a sand pond for the cory's as well.

Too many plants? Is that a thing?

Seriously, I have tanks that are planted at least twice as densely as yours and the fish find their way through them just fine. They all have some open space, but in some cases it's probably not over 25-30% of the tank volume.

You tank looks good! It's not too many at all. My tank looks like a jungle, it's a 15 gal with about 22 live ones. Plants are great. They filter the water and provide surface area for bacteria to grow on. They consume waste not only in your water column but also in your substrate. If you feel like they are over crowding, just trim them to your liking and then let them do their thing.

I don’t think you can ever have too many plants! It looks great to me.

Plants can be too many, when they start to use more nutrients than are available. But the tank in this thread can do with even more.
