So setting up a third tank 110g... first time using a cannister filter.... now I have filled it last Saturday used my water treatment... waited a day added seed (by seachem) and when cleaning my 55 gallon today I rinced my sponges in the tank water... and took my old filter media... well one of them cut up the fabric portion and put it with my bio max in the cannister..is this the best way to go to seed a tank?

I tested the water just now.. .5ppm ammonia 0 nitrites and 1ppm nitrates..

I'm a lil confused about no nitrites.. lol any input would be great

Do you have nitrites and nitrates mixed up by any chance? I do not know of any nitrate test kit can test down to 1ppm.

Does the 110 have fish or another ammonia source in it?

Appears that you are cycled

Then the filter media inserted into the new one looks like a success then.

What was your ammonia source?

Yes it does look cycled. It took what? A day to cycle lol? That's nice! Now what do you think you are going to put in the tank?

I've only seeded about a dozen times, but I've never seen nitrites either, and I know my test kit works. My best guess is the nitrobacter colony is just much larger in an established tank and converts it faster than other cycling methods.

I have some fish in the tank..... what I did was took out the filter media that I have had for like ever.... I cut it into 4 pieces and put all 4 in my new 406 2 went with my bio max... on each side.. and 2 went with the sponges.. I then when I did my water change on my 55 took out my sponges and rinced them IN the new tank....... I have been adding seed too... to boost what was in there.... I have had a school of lamp eye tetras in there since I did this and they are fine as rain..... they will be moved soon though into my 55..I am moving my loaches into the 110 (2 clown loaches) and pairing them with a mix hap/peacock tank...
