Is This Soil Tank Safe?

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone reckons this would be safe to use in a new tank I'm starting up? It is aquatic plant mix and I'll attach a pic of the info given. I don't think theyd sell you something to put in your pond if it could kill fish or whatever you have in there, at least without warning, but who knows... Thanks

I think it's okay. Just check the label and make sure there are no chemical fertilizers, as these may harm fish/inverts. In a large pond the amount of fertilizer is diluted with such volume of water. But it might be more concentrated or harmful to animals in a small aquarium. You should be okay, just check the labels.

I’d say it’s safe. Just put a gravel or sand cap over it and you should be good to go. If you want to be extra cautious, you could put it in a bucket with water and test the water over a period of time (few weeks).

Where did you find the soil? I’d be interested in trying it.

It's going to be a nano tank and I have about double what I need in this bag, so I'll just try it in the tank itself and see if anything seems off before adding livestock I unfortunately can't remember the name of the store I got it from, but basically a gardening store. I live in South Africa and I doubt there's any overseas branches though it was very affordable. Very sorry!

Yea that’s a long haul for me to pick up some soil lol! Although I spent time in Africa while in the army. Wish I was there as a tourist, not as a grunt.

Interesting there is river sand in it. I just set up a tank using river sand I collected locally unsure how it would work. After 2 months, the plants in the tank are thriving. I did use soil capped with sand on part of the tank, but the plants throughout the tank are doing great.
No fish in it yet, just snails. It’s gonna be my puffers new home.

Oh wow, similarly I have been considering putting dwarf puffers in this nano tank as I saw them for the first time at my lfs today

I have one puffer in a 6 gallon. Waiting to get another puffer to put with her in a 10 gallon. I want to put them in the new 10 gallon at same time so they each have a chance to establish their territory.
They are an awesome fish. Very interactive and interesting to watch. Highly recommend them. A little messy as eaters so a little extra maintenance but worth it.
