Is This Safe For My Betta?

I got my betta yesterday, and he's been hanging out near the filter quite a lot. I've heard stories about how someone's betta's fins got ripped up due to the filter, which is what worries me. I know he can move away from the filter (I've seen him do it multiple times) but he chooses not to. Is this dangerous for my betta? If so, how do I fix/prevent it?

    Welcome to Fishlore!:)
If you cover the intake with a piece of pantyhose, it will buffer the flow a bit and prevent your betta's find from being sucked in.
    Congrats on your new betta!:D

Post a picture if you can :) What type of tank and filter do you have? Is the filter very strong? Pantyhose is a good solution! An intake sponge could help. I feel like bettas learn which areas to avoid, in general, not to worry too much :)

A sponge filter placed over the intake of the filter can help prevent this also!
