Is this rock safe to use in an aquarium?

Mahis

I found this in an local creek. What is it and is it safe to use in an freshwater tank?

I suggest that you boil it. Take boiling water, and pour it over the rock in a bucket. Leave it in the bucket for 7 days, then test the ph of the water. If the ph is still the same as the water in your tank/faucet, it should be ok.

Looks like quartz to me. Should be fine for aquarium use.

The bottom part if the rock is very gritty. Does this mean it's sandstone? The top is pretty smooth tho

Idk what that rock is but i use sandstone from my yard and i have had no issues, that looks a bit smooth to be sandstone, id search some rock images up for better ID.

Here are some more pics I took earlier. It also glistens so there may be some minerals in it? I poured vinegar on it but it didn't fizz at all.

I've heard that sandstone may contain minerals that can affect my pH. How do I make sure it's safe for my tank?

fill a bucket with tap water, test its pH, add the rocks, after a week of rocks being in bucket of tap water test the pH levels, if it has changed then it shouldnt be used unless it adjust the pH to a level you want for your tank and fish.
