Is this parasitic or bacterial?

I've been having a parasite break out lately for some reason. I want to make sure this is actually parasitic rather than bacterial.

He started out sitting on the bottom with clamped fins. He's more active now and not clamping his fins as much, but they're looking a little ratty and his pectoral joint is red and inflamed.

I'm on day 3 of a prazipro treatment so far.

Thanks guys!

Inflamed points me towards bacterial (but that could be a secundairy infection)

I can't really tell if it's actually inflamed. My research on flukes and parasites suggests that it can cause fin joints to become red. I'm just not sure if I should also be treating for bacterial infections. I don't have a stable enough quarantine tank to do a bacterial treatment.

Please give him some antibiotic. Maracyn 2 or maracyn plus would work well for this guy.
prazipro is not necessary, its a dewormer.

Have you tested your ammonia and nitrite? Any tank mates that are picking on him?

It really does look bacterial.

I don't think it was bacterial. A day or so after taking this picture his joint was back to normal. He's now back to his active self and isn't clamping his fins anymore.

The fins looked ragged as well.
Looked like finrot (bacterial as well).

Btw : Am I correct that you've got healthproblems with more fish? Are the in the same tank?

Yes I seem to be getting weird parasitic issues. His fins have since gotten a lot better and no longer appear frayed.

But do you keep (sub)tropical fish and coldwaterfish in the same tank ?

It's a fancy goldfish tank but I do have a rubber lip pleco and a mystery snail that was intended for my betta tank, but the betta kept picking on him.

So why are you in denial? Would a google search prove it to you when all of our info is so worthless?

Buddy, its finrot, and its bacterial.

If you're going to be a jerk, see yourself out of my thread. For a bacterial infection it sure is weird that's it's completely cleared up and his fins and activity level are back to normal.

This is him as of this evening. I appreciate everyone's help, but this particular case was not bacterial. He's back to 100% after the parasite treatment.

so why even make this thread????
Parasites don't eat away at the fins..

Actually, there are. The definition of a parasite is "an organism that lives in or on another organism (it's host) and benefits by deriving nutrients at the host's expense"-Google. Many parasitic infections have symptoms on the fins of fish.

I would treat with a bacterial and parasite medicine and do frequent water changes until the fins heal so it doesn't get re-infected.
Glad to hear he's doing better though!

Let's not continue to bicker.
Let's be happy that heifetz17's fish is better. That's always good news
