Is This Normal Roseline Shark Behavior?

hello!

so I got a roseline about a month ago and he's been showing signs of healthy behavior. eating and pooping. last week I installed a sponge filter intake on my hang on the back filter and he just chills there all the time now. a lot of the times he's facing downwards and stays that way. when I feed he comes out to eat but as soon as he's done he goes back to the corner facing downward....

has anyone had this issue before?

thanks!

What are your:
Parameters?
Tank size?
Do you only have 1?
Temperature of tank?

Roseline sharks are a schooling fish. You need 6 or more to keep these fish feeling safe. They get large, about 5” so I wouldn’t recommend anything smaller then a 60 gallonfor a school. To me this guy looks scared.

nitrate 10
nitrite 0
ammonia pretty low
60 gallon
2 roseline sharks
80 degrees

so i've recently turned on my power head and now their up and moving hovering over my apistos cave..... I think my apisto just laid eggs and worried they're hovering to eat....

so this is recent behavior and before this he would swim everywhere. there is another roseline in the tank but def not a school of 6 or more.

I recently turned on my powerhead and now he's swimming but hovering over my apistos cave.

He's probably stressed.

Is ammonia not 0? Even in very small amounts ammonia is very harmful.
They are schooling so 2 is not enough. 6 is bare minimum but 10 is better.

80f is too warm for these guys. I think they do best around 72f.

Your profile says 40 gallons?

Yup 100% agreed with above post... I’m glad you did the typing for me...
And OP when someone is trying to help you and the most toxic thing in the tank you give an answer like “pretty low” that doesn’t help us...
Someone might think 1 is pretty low while others think .25 is pretty low... but anything other than 0 means something is not right...
are you over stocked? And you really need to increase those numbers from 2.... like they mentioned above.... that’s why I asked if you only had one... but you need at least 4-5 more and what else is in the tank with them?

so my ammonia is 0 - .25 and so my water parameters are safe. I recently moved the sharks to a larger tank after learning that the 40 breeder was too small but this is my first time hearing that they like cooler temps of 72 degrees. all things considered would you say it's because I do not have enough in a school?

I am very sorry to tell you but 0-.25 is certainly not “safe” the ONLY safe number is 0... so you’ve got something going on there... in a cycled tank you shouldn’t ever see a spike unless you add a whole bunch of fish at once, go threw a minI cycle or have too many fish for your tank....
So you said you got a bigger tank for them? What size is this one? And if you are going to increase your numbers you should do that now... you should have added the whole school at once IMO.... and yes the optimal temperature for roseline sharks is about 72F (and can go as low as 68) what you have them at is too high...
It’s very important to know what else is in this tank because certain tropical fish will require a higher temp than that....
Also what is your PH? If you have a high PH then most of what you are calling “safe ammonia” levels will be in the form of free ammonia... very dangerous... so your PH in this case is also important
So with the new tank set up how did you do it? Did you transfer everything or explain what size you moved to, how you did it, and what other fish you have, your PH, and we can most likely help you... without that info we can’t...
Also I can’t remeber if you mentioned but what do you use for testing?
