Is this normal for jungle val?

I recently noticed that my jungle val has new growths on it. Although, it looks a little odd to me. Is this normal?

Wow, that looks like a flower to me!

Hang on, going to look that up...

Does it look like it might turn into something like this?

So cool! If it develops further can you post pictures? I never got the chance to see mine flower; I was trying to keep a 4 foot plant in a 5 gallon tank...

Yeah, sure I can update you if anything happens. Maybe you should try to keep jungle Val in a 10g, it's working for me. However, my LFS had it in a taller tank than mine, so I ended up having to trim it down a lot...

Oh I'd love to keep it again! I'll want to have a much bigger tank though. Bigger than 10g. It was wildly happy in my 5 gallon and that was a major part of the problem. I was constantly cutting it shorter and trying to contain the runners

Oh. Haha. I have to do the same. Every couple days I have to trim it shorter! What size tank are you thinking of?

With any luck, an 80 or 95. A LOT of luck

Well, I hope luck is in your favor. The only thing stopping me from getting a giant tank is space. Always an issue... Anyways, the flower, I guess one of the petals, ripped open from the top. I thought the inside of the petal would come out, but nothing has happened so far.

So it turns out they weren't flowers after all. I guess they were the beginning of new growths? What happened was the leaves split open and the inside had little tiny balls in them and they slowly degraded. After they degraded, there was a little leaf left. Sadly, the pond snails and ramshorn snails in my tank ate up the new growths.
I also found out that the jungle val flowers bloom on the surface of the water. A little stem grows up to the surface of the water and the flower blooms at the surface.
