I am feeding my red and blue zebras and yellow labs some cichlid pellet food I believe is from AQUEON Or BLUE FIN .
I know that the zebras are herbivores and the labs are omnivores and that the rich protein food is bad for Mbunas and I took a look on the back of the package when I saw that it contains 46% protein and the main ingredients are krill ,mackrell and cod or something anyway they state on the package that is cichlids food and my fishes eat it like is no tomorrow ,I tried spinach and salad but they do not touch it .
What kind of food should I feed them?

you can always try cichlid pellets, you can find them pretty good ones from NLS and kensfish.com, omega one as well

also try hikarI frozen bloodworms/shrimp

I have no experience feeding cichlids with any veggies, never tried it but am curios =]

I use a quality vege flake like HBH 8 Vegie Flakes or OSI Spirulina Flakes along with New Life Spectrum Pellets as the staple for my Mbuna.

You need to have patience when first introducing fresh veggies into the fishes diet as it will take them a little while to work out that it's food. Blanching any veggies before adding them to the tank will make them softer for the fish & more likely to be eaten at first. Spinach, Silverbeet & Lettuce leaves are great foods for Mbuna. Blanch them & then pin them under a small rock for the fish to pick at. Better still is if you have one of those magnetic glass cleaners, pin the leaves under the inside magnet. The leaves waving around in the current are too much for the Mbuna to resist investigating & eventually nibbling at. I've recently started feeding finely diced & peeled ZuchinI with great success. Again blanche it before feeding to the fish.

thank you Nutter, you know I took your advice in adding 8 of each specie in the tank and they do great for now.
I will look for this kind of flakes and pellets thanks again

Good morning,

I have merged your duplicate threads. Please only create 1 thread per topic. It will be less confusing to other members.

Too, I've moved your thread to the Freshwater Tank Equipment/Fish Food section of the forum.

Thanks!
