In my opinion it should be enough. with the aquatop rated at 400 gph and the pennplax at 185 that would give your 585, which would be over 5x turnover. But one thing to remember is when running more than 1 filter it actually affects the flow rate in it doesn't allow either filter to perform at optium rates due to the opposing pull and output from both filters.

In my opinion you would be better off with 1 aquatop 500 than those two combined but seing as it is pretty lightly stocked for that size tank I think you would be fine

Sounds good to me. Running two filters is always better than one. If one quits on you, at least you have another to keep the cycling going while you buy a replacement.

Set the intakes in opposite corners of the tank and put the spar bars in the middle back or horizontally arcoss the top and you will not run into suction issues. The only time I could see you having some suction issues for either filter would be having the intakes together or having a bubble wand, stone, whatever next to the intake. If you get the flow pattern messed up in the tank I can see one not getting as much of the water to filter as the other thou so do watch for that.
