Is this a true Siamese Algae Eater?

FlipTopBox

I discovered recently that my tank has developed black beard algae. After reading several forums I decided to buy 3 Siamese Algae Eaters. I know this particular fish can be easily mis identified, especially by a novice like me. But they seem to match the pictures i've seen on the internet. They have been in the tank about a week but they don't seem to be interested in what they should consider the mother load of food. I would appreciate any help.

You can wait for others to reply but here's a useful link.

Thanks for the link. The coloration above the black stripe makes me think they may be Garras but the black stripe extending to the end of the tail seems to be consistent with sae.

It's a true sae

Looks like an SAE to me also. You'll know quickly cuz he will go crazy on that algae....if BBA is a type the eat. I had minor brown algae in moss and the SAE ate every last bit!

Cool, thanks for the replies. I hope their appetites get better.

Welcome to fishlore!
I agree with the ID. What size tank? I'd add 3 more if it's big enough.

Thanks, it's a 55 gallon tank.
