Is This A Ridiculous Idea? Big Fish In 110 Gallon Tank

Is it possible to do a monster grow-out tank with my 110 gallon? I want to put (juvenile only) Peacock Bass, Arowana, and maybe a Pacu with my Clown Knife and Electric Blue Acara, and grow them out until the tank is too big for them, my lfs will take them all until they're too too big, but I know I wouldnt let them even get full size in my 110 gallon, but would that work?

There are some other fish in there now, that I'm sure will probably be eaten, Giant danios, buenos aires tetras, and the dragon goby I plan on returning

Hate that you would use the phrase " there are some other fish in there now but I'm sure they will probably be eaten". They probably deserve better.

To answer your question it is never a good idea to have a juvenile fish that your tank cannot support when full grown. Those fish also deserve better.

What's the point of running a tank that big, and buying monster fish that you're not even going to keep until adulthood? Seems like a waste of time and money to me. Not to mention that the fish will probably be stunted, thus decreasing their value as well.

Breeding fish to be used for food I thought was common practice. As with my snail infestation I am waiting to build up more before introducing clown loaches for them to have a buffet, I do not feel bad for feeding them. I enjoy watching fish grow and develop, and my lfs buys these fish back. I want to raise the juveniles and get rid of them before being full grown, I find it interesting, therefore I do not find it a waste of time or money. Side note: My buddy bought his arowana at the store for 70 and sold it back after a year for ~140 in store credit, not trying to do this for money but for interest, just pointing out a note.

I apologize that I offended you with my statement about fish being eaten, but it was just a question on if a smaller tank will be suitable if my fish will be returned before outgrowing them. Thanks for your responses.

Yea it will work, but I agree with the others. It would be ridiculous unless you can turn a profit.

I agree with Greg F. Don't buy a fish if you can't house it long term. Because then your gonna sell them back to the pet store and a 2 foot arrowana is gonna end up in a tank he can hardly turn around in because no pet store unless it's a show tank/ specialty place has the space for an adult arrowana. You can't buy a factory tank that size, they have to be made. I don't have issues of breeding fish for food, it's the way you worded it that got me up into a knot.

I mean hey if you want to temporarily keep fish, more power to you. However, being that I've heard that some of those fish need like a 300 gallon tank, I don't picture a 110 being adequate to grow them out to almost adult size. Also even if you do buy a fish for $70 and get $140 back, would that actually cover all the expenses of growing it? You have to figure food, water change expenses, electricity to run all the equipment, any meds you may need, and any decor for the tank (if any).

Well, I guess I can't pose a crazy idea without getting backlash for it lol for the record again, I am not trying to turn any profit from this, I am aware I am spending money to do the things I enjoy. I want to temporarily keep 2-3" fish until they're 8-10" fish at most and give them to my fish store (which has show tanks that they do not sell from), or give them to the local aquarium that I am involved with who keep florida invasives and predators. I see how the tank is still a bit small to do that though

I think it's how you worded it that got people up in arms. Saying your just gonna buy a fish only to get rid of it when it's too big is no different then telling someone to buy a common pleco for a 20 gallon and when it's to big, return it. People on here buy fish to keep for life. If they breed, they sell the young early so that someone else with the space of an adult can watch them grow. If they end up as a feeder, then at least it's not in a diseased crowded tank.

If you have a good after plan in place, why not? Its a little unorthodox ,and expensive mabee, but if this is something you'll enjoy, go for it.

Ah. Okay, I admit this makes a lot more sense now. Help out your aquarium and your lfs. That's cool. Especially if you enjoy it.
