Is this a Male or female Betta?

So I got an extra betta, and I don't know if it is male or female.


Anybody know what it is?

 

I want to say male because of the body shape but it's hard to confirm without also seeing the ventral fins. Any chance you could post more photos?

 

The fish has practically no ventral fins, the little nubs that are in the pic is what it has. I'm not sure what happened to them, but it looks like they got bit off or something...

Edit: I think it's a she, I put her with one of my males, and he got excited and she didn't.

 

Kinda looks like a female but not a very good quality one, a healthy female is usually very obvious with a belly full of eggs and the egg spot. I’ve also received a freebie but it was worse than that. Thought it was a male due to how thin it was but it was just a runty, deformed female.

Often times there’s a reason freebies are included, I’ll admit sometimes I use the less colorful bettas (looking at all the cellophanes in my tanks lol) as freebies but at least they are in good shape and have a chance at marbling into something cool. Hopefully yours will improve with good care.

 

Yeah, she's pretty big. She looks really pretty, the seller is only selling males on eBay, so maybe they need to get rid of the females.
