Is this a humane method of euthanization? betta

I think it's time to be responsible and put my betta down. I've been trying to help him for 3 weeks now (see my other threads, if you like) but he has dropsy and is getting worse every day. I can't do anything more: ammonia 0 nitrites 0 nitrates 10 ph7 temp 78 and medication don't work.

The thing is I can't have any clove oil and the only method I found that seems humane enough for me is putting the fish in freezing cold water. the sudden change in temperature causes the fish a heart attack. Should I use this method? Is it humane enough? I really won't stand it if the fish struggles for more than 2 secs. :'(

I'm so sorry for you and your betta..... I'm not sure I could do the freezing water. That would basically shock him to death. The clove oil/vodka route basically lulls him to sleep, from what I understand. :console:

I've read pure vodka, but have not tried myself. Sorry you have to go through this. I just let nature take it's course. Don't have the stomach to euthanize.
Have you used the search feature. I've seen threads on this before. It might help you out.

I did search but the next best thing since clove oil seems to be the freezing cold water method. I can't believe I am doing this to my betta I love him so much and

Then that's all you can ask of yourself, right...... :console:

When I have put fish down in the past I used my pocket knife. I know it seems morbid, but it's instant.

it only lasted one second. but that was enough to make me burst into tears. I can't remember me crying this bad before. It wanted to live,he was trying to dodge the net and that breaks my heart. RIP :'(

I'm very sorry you had to go through that. I didn't have the heart to do that to my betta. He had to suffer and die. What you did was a great kindness. Of course he didn't want to die, but he didn't want to suffer either. You did the right thing and although it's hard, just know that he's not suffering anymore. I'm sure he's in a 100 gallon tank in heaven (if that's what you believe in). *hugs*

thank you all
Yesterday I was thinking of giving the hobby up. Today I saw my neons spawning. The cricle of life, huh. Guess I'll just do a 20% water change in my tanks and feed them bloodworms.
