Is this a honey gourami?

sarahkated

Hey! I got this fish probably two months ago and I honestly have no clue if it’s a sunset thicklipped gourami or a honey gourami? It was sold to me at petco as a sunset thicklipped gourami but I really do not trust them because it looks like a honey. Figured I’d come on here and get some answers! Thanks!

It looks like a thick lipped to me (but it could also be a hybrid between the two). I think it is a female.

Thicklip. Honeys and thicklips don’t hybridize.

Honeys and Thicklips do hybridize, as does the Dwarf. Crossing the two is how Sunset Thicklips were developed, and is the reason for variation seen in the sunset lines. Also, the Red/Flame Dwarf is likely a hybrid with the Honey.

does anyone have any idea why it has black/gray spots on its fins? They started appearing not too long ago and I’m worried it’s a disease.

It's just darker pigment. Sunset Thicklips can vary quite a bit; I've seen males that were chocolate in color.
