Is This A Healthy Betta?

Or, this one first pic:

My brother has a Betta fish that I have been helping him with a lot. I thought that it was a red Betta and that his color was fading because of stress, but it actually looks exactly like this one(as far as color). The site says that the one in the picture I linked is a healthy Betta. Do you agree? Because it looks almost identical to my brother's fish.

As long as the fins don't show signs of tearing or erosion (fin rot) I'd say so. What kind of tank is the betta in? Heater, filter, diet?

He's not in the right kind of tank... one of the petco ones. My dad just bought the cheapest one he could find for my 5 year old brother. I have been planning on getting a much better one as soon as I can, thankfully the temperature of the water is at about 75 because it's summer. And I've been changing the water frequently and treating it with prime.

He had fin rot, however I am pretty sure I was able to cure that because the fins seem to be regrowing. I'm still treating just a bit. And thankfully, I think I caught that early on.

Edit: oh and diet is just pellets. They used to feed him flakes but I changed that.

So that light orange is a regular color of Betta?

The fins do suggest maybe they aren't the happiest, but if its a new Betta that's completely normal. Other than that though it does look perfectly fine .

Bettas come in every color under the sun! Earth-tones, pastels, neon, metallic... pretty much any color is possible. I will say the fins and coloration improve in ideal conditions, sometimes drastically.

-2.5 gallon minimum, preferably 5 or more.
-Heater that is set to at least 78 degrees F
-Filter with low flow rate so betta doesn't struggle to swim against a current
-High quality diet with fish/shrimp as the first ingredient
-Lots of nooks and crannies to explore, heavy plant cover, and softer, more acidic water (though any pH is fine for captive-bred bettas)
-Regular water changes of 25-50% once a week (you can get away with once every 2 weeks with a LOT of live plants)

Thanks! I wanted to get a 10 for him but it depends on how big a tank they are willing to deal with. I'll probably end up with 2.5 or 3. I haven't had any luck finding a heater at petco.. I'm going to have to look for a specialty store.

Yeah that picture is the one online. Thankfully, mine spreads his fins a lot and seems realitively happy. I just removed one of the fake plants so he'd have more room to swim for now

Not sure where you live but check online, you can generally find good quality, inexpensive equipment on Amazon.

I think your betta is in good hands. He sounds like he's a good healthy fish. I would definitely look on Amazon for equipment. I got a lot of my aquarium stuff from Amazon and I am very pleased with the good quality. And it's a bit cheaper than if you were to buy directly from a pet store!!!

Yeah one of the things I didn't anticipate is that the cost of all this stuff adds up. If I can get it for a bit cheaper, then even better!

Check Craigslist. People are almost always giving away tank equipment for super cheap (or even for free).

I agree that Craigslist can be an excellent source to get equipment for a cheaper price... however, just be mindful that things on Craigslist are (usually) used already and may not be in very good condition or sanitary. Make sure you take those things into consideration when buying things for your fish aquarium and take proper care to sanitize purchased items!!!
