Is this a cool idea or what?!

So I had this awesome idea yesterday about a pond, but not any pond, a indoor pond! I thought if I bought this container that is 36in/17in/7in and is clear and put a filter on it with a thin layer of sand and some rocks I could literally put it on my desk and look into it! BUT! I can't get ahead of myself......... Could I put like 2 fancy goldfish in their because they enjoy swimming across, not up and down right? Let me know what you guys think!

It's a great idea but personally it still might be too small for goldfish either way. Wait until someone else confirms but you have a very creative idea.

That is a great idea! however your aquarium is only 18.55 gallons, so I wouldn't do goldfish. Instead you could do something like guppies or whatever you like that is suited for an aquarium that size. Good luck with your pond!

It's only 18 gallons and I believe 20 is the recommendation for 1.

That's what I've read but, couldn't you have more of their was more swimming space? Just a prediction

You could put a betta or two (divided or, if you can manage, a betta sorority, but probably not)

If the "pond" was taller, then yes, the footprint would be fine for a fancy. But the tank is too short, and it is not made up for by the increased horizontal swimming room.

You could put several bettas if it's divided and has a good filter system

I would go for 16" minimum personally.
